Job summary

Discerning Capital LLC is seeking a Head of Finance & Operations to serve as the operational backbone of our investment platform, with a clear path to CFO/COO as the firm scales. You will own fund operations, monthly closes, and complex investment transactions, working directly with the investment team to build scalable infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 4-7+ years combining expertise across fund accounting, transaction accounting, fund formation law, VC/PE transaction law, and/or fund administration.
• Startup mindset with ownership mentality and excitement about building a large investment firm from the ground up.
• Comfort with ambiguity; able to create order from complexity.
• Team-oriented, collaborative in a small, high-impact team.

Responsibilities

• Oversee external fund admins for equity and credit funds.
• Manage GP and Management Company accounting, tax functions, and monthly closes.
• Coordinate with external providers on A/R, A/P, expense categorization, and treasury activities.
• Lead the full closing process for equity and credit investments, including entity formation, banking setup, fund documentation, subscription agreements, investor questionnaires, KYC/AML compliance, and wire coordination.
• Manage SEC, FINRA, and other regulatory filings to maintain compliance across all fund vehicles.
• Handle ad hoc priorities including NDA reviews, investor requests and meetings, and other emerging needs as the firm grows.

The Role

We're seeking a Head of Finance & Operations to serve as the operational backbone of our investment platform. This role offers a clear path to CFO/COO as the firm scales. You'll own the full spectrum of fund operations, from monthly closes to complex investment transactions, working directly with our investment team to build infrastructure that supports our growth.

What You'll Do

Fund Operations & Administration

• Oversee external fund administrators for both equity and credit funds
• Manage GP and Management Company accounting, tax functions, and monthly closes
• Coordinate with external providers on A/R, A/P, expense categorization, and treasury activities

Investment Execution

• Lead the full closing process for equity and credit investments, including entity formation, banking setup, fund documentation, subscription agreements, investor questionnaires, KYC/AML compliance, and wire coordination

Regulatory & Compliance

• Manage SEC, FINRA, and other regulatory filings to maintain compliance across all fund vehicles

Strategic Operations

• Handle ad hoc priorities including NDA reviews, investor requests and meetings, and other emerging needs as the firm grows
