The Opportunity

CoinDesk is seeking a visionary, dynamic, and business-minded Head of Events to lead, scale, and elevate our global events division, anchored by Consensus—the world's largest, longest-running, and most influential gathering where institutional finance, traditional capital markets, and digital asset pioneers converge. In this executive role, you will hold full strategic and P&L accountability for our events business, managing a high-performing team across operations, marketing, programming, and production. You will collaborate closely with CoinDesk's Executive Leadership, Sales, Editorial, and Product teams to align our live experiences with commercial goals and editorial integrity. Your mission is to defend and fortify Consensus's position as the undisputed industry benchmark while aggressively driving audience acquisition and net-new revenue streams across both the traditional financial sector and emerging technology landscapes. This is a high-visibility opportunity to lead the premier global forum for the future of money and digital markets, offering an ambitious business builder the platform to shape industry discourse and drive massive commercial impact on a global scale. This position is based in NYC and will be required to work 4 days per week onsite at our office located in Chelsea.

What You’ll Do:
  • Strategic Growth & Scaling: Design and execute a multi-year growth strategy for the events business, focusing on scaling Consensus attendance, expanding its global footprint, and launching new regional events or niche spin-offs.
  • P&L Ownership & Commercial Strategy: Assume full financial accountability for the events business unit. Partner with the Sales team to architect high-value sponsorship packages, optimize ticket-pricing tiers, and maximize profitability.
  • Audience Acquisition & Marketing: Oversee data-driven marketing campaigns to expand the event’s audience base, successfully targeting traditional finance (TradFi), institutional investors, policymakers, and mainstream tech sectors alongside the core crypto community.
  • Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Manage, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary events team (operations, logistics, marketing, content). Ensure seamless alignment with the Editorial team to deliver world-class programming that reflects current market trends.
  • Vendor & Operations: Partner with Event Operations and Procurement to steer high-stakes vendor negotiations, venue selections, and technology stack integrations to ensure flawless, safe, and premium experiential execution for tens of thousands of attendees.
Target Outcomes:
  • Secure Consensus's year-over-year market dominance, achieve ambitious revenue and profit margin milestones, and successfully diversify the portfolio to hedge against crypto market cyclicality.
What You Have:
  • Professional Experience: 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in large-scale B2B conference production, commercial media, or experiential events, with a proven track record of running flagship events scaling over 10,000+ attendees.
  • Financial Acumen: Proven experience managing multi-million dollar P&Ls, with a deep understanding of event economics, digital/physical hybrid infrastructure, and corporate sponsorship sales.
  • Industry Context: Experience within tech, media, or financial services events is required; a strong familiarity with the cryptocurrency, blockchain, or fintech landscape is highly preferred.
  • Behavioral Competencies: A charismatic, high-energy leader with exceptional executive presence, sharp negotiation skills, and the ability to remain calm and decisive under high-pressure, fast-moving environments.
  • Tools & Systems: Advanced knowledge of modern event technology ecosystems (e.g., Cvent, Bizzabo, Hopin), CRM systems (Salesforce), data analytics platforms, and modern digital marketing stacks.
