Job Description
Head of Enterprise Modernization (Transformation Leader)

Location: Remote (US), with travel as needed | Type: Contract to Hire | Experience: 15+ years (SVP/EVP level)

About the Role

You'll lead a large-scale data platform modernization for a financial services company and own the program end to end. This is the senior operator accountable for bringing structure to a complex, multi-workstream transformation, driving accountability across internal teams and delivery partners, and creating the transparency executives need to make fast, clear decisions.

This is hands-on leadership, not an advisory seat. The company is moving from strategy into execution and needs the operating engine that can carry the transformation forward at pace. They're looking for someone who has actually led modernization of core financial services systems at scale, not someone who has only reviewed it from the sidelines.

If you've run a high-stakes systems modernization where architecture and vendor decisions carried real long-term consequences, and you know how to keep a program like that moving with discipline, this role will feel familiar.

What You'll Do

Own program leadership for the full modernization effort, including cadence, decision rights, and the standard for execution

Stand up and run the transformation management office, including the decision engine and the incremental roles needed to operate at scale

Drive sourcing and capacity strategy, from RFx kickoff through talent planning across full-time and contract roles, plus selection of systems integrators and delivery partners

Lead key vendor and platform decisions across the data ecosystem, including cloud and data infrastructure, tokenization, and related core components

Build the execution backlog and go deeper on solutioning for the most critical, earliest-sequenced components of the enterprise data platform

Some of the work is direct blocker removal, whether that's hiring and finance constraints, organizational interdependencies, or stalled decisions that need a final call

Partner closely with business unit leadership and an embedded strategy team, keeping executives aligned and the program visible

Qualifications

SVP/EVP-level career history leading enterprise transformation inside large, complex financial services or enterprise technology organizations

Direct ownership of core financial services systems modernization at scale, with accountability for the outcome

A track record of building and running a transformation or program management office that delivered real results

Strong command of large-program mechanics, including backlog and roadmap discipline, vendor and SI management, sourcing, and capacity planning

Comfort making and defending high-consequence architecture and vendor decisions under scrutiny

Credibility with senior executives, plus the presence to drive accountability across teams you don't directly manage

Deep fraud or risk domain knowledge isn't required. What matters most is experience leading complexity at scale in core financial systems

Why Join Us

You'd be the person the organization is counting on to make this transformation real. The mandate is broad, the visibility is high, and you'll work alongside an embedded strategy team with executive sponsorship behind the effort.

This is a strong fit for an operator who wants hard, consequential problems and wants a direct hand in how a major financial services platform gets rebuilt for the next decade.
