Job summary

Harnham seeks a Director of Engineering to lead and grow an ambitious engineering organization in Cambridge, MA. The role combines hands-on coding with strategic leadership to align product delivery with business goals.

You will shape backend architecture, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD practices while mentoring a team through rapid growth. Hybrid working and equity opportunities are part of the package.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years of engineering leadership experience.
• 3+ years directly managing engineering teams – ideally 8+ people.
• Strong hands-on development background with recent coding.
• Expertise with Python, React, and cloud platforms (AWS and/or GCP).
• Experience building and scaling distributed, cloud-native systems.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, deployment, and运营.
• Proven track record delivering in startup or high-growth environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team with accountability and collaboration.
• Own engineering delivery: sprint planning, backlog, execution, and cross-functional alignment.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, and execs to align tech priorities with business goals.
• Architect, build, and scale backend systems and cloud infrastructure for a growing platform.
• Establish engineering best practices across CI/CD, testing, observability, reliability, and ops.
• Contribute to production code and lead complex technical initiatives hands-on.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted software development to boost efficiency and productivity.
• Support hiring and help scale the engineering organization as the business grows.
