Job summary

Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel in Milwaukee seeks a Chief Engineer to lead engineering, maintenance, and facility operations. You will supervise an engineering team, manage preventive maintenance, and oversee capital projects and budgets to ensure a safe, well‑maintained property.

Responsibilities include supervising maintenance, controlling expenses, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and coordinating with hotel leadership for optimal operations and guest experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or associate’s degree in engineering, facilities management, construction management, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive engineering or facilities maintenance experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
• Experience in hotel, resort, hospitality, healthcare, or large commercial facilities preferred.
• Expertise in operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life-safety systems.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and construction documents.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for engineering, maintenance, life safety, and facility operations to ensure a safe, efficient property.
• Lead, develop, and manage the Engineering team through hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
• Direct preventive maintenance programs, work orders, and repair of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, kitchen equipment).
• Develop and manage departmental operating and capital budgets; identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Plan and oversee capital improvement projects and major repairs.
• Ensure safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance (OSHA, life safety).
• Collaborate with hotel leadership on emergency planning, energy management, and guest/associate experience.
• Maintain relationships with vendors, contractors, regulators, and stakeholders; monitor inventory and standards.
• Prepare reports and recommendations on facility conditions and capital needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
