Job summary

Upstart is seeking a Senior Director of Data Platform Engineering to lead the data infrastructure organization, spanning Database Engineering, Data Capture, Data Curation, and Production Experience & Data Governance. You will shape strategy, roadmap, and investments for enterprise-wide data pipelines and platforms.

You will guide engineering leaders, partner with Analytics and ML Platform teams, and drive modernization to reduce technical debt while enabling scalable data operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of relevant experience and 5+ years of direct people management experience.
• Experience leading a data engineering or data platform organization.
• Experience owning strategy and roadmaps for large-scale data infrastructure.
• Experience modernizing data architecture and reducing technical debt.

Responsibilities

• Lead and evolve Upstart’s data platform organization (Database Engineering, Data Capture, Data Curation, Production Experience & Data Governance).
• Set strategy/roadmap for data infrastructure aligning with business priorities.
• Modernize operational data architecture; improve reliability and data quality.
• Develop engineering leaders, establish ownership and standards.
• Collaborate across Analytics, Engineering, and ML Platform to align needs.
