Job summary

Alpaca is seeking a Head of Data to lead a ~15-person data organization spanning Platform Engineering, Analytics Engineering and Data Science. You will own data strategy, execution, and the department roadmap, powering invoicing, revenue attribution and analytics for multiple business functions.

You will guide architecture decisions, balance delivery with strategic bets on self-service analytics, and collaborate with executives to scale data-centric initiatives across the firm.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in data engineering or analytics with 3+ years leading data teams
• Deep experience with modern data stack: dbt, Trino/Presto, Iceberg and cloud storage
• Hands-on ETL/ELT at scale: CDC, batch, streaming and reverse ETL
• Proven ability to build self-serve analytics for non-technical users
• Experience with financial data and invoicing/revenue attribution
• Strong Python and SQL; able to read and review code
• Experience managing distributed teams across time zones
• Experience with GCP, Kubernetes, Terraform and data infrastructure

Responsibilities

• Lead three sub-teams: Platform Engineering, Analytics Engineering and Data Science
• Own and evolve Data Lakehouse architecture: Trino, Iceberg, GCS, Airflow, dbt
• Drive invoicing accuracy and pricing evolution
• Deliver embedded analytics and manage access controls
• Support product launches with data impact analysis across datasets
• Advance self-service analytics with semantic layers and data catalogs
• Oversee AI/ML enablement and enterprise search initiatives
• Collaborate with Finance, Sales, Product and Compliance to translate needs into data products
• Manage data infrastructure costs and on-call incident processes
