Job summary

Joyful Reading Co. seeks a Head of Content & Curriculum to steer content strategy and curriculum management across our product portfolio.

Job description

Joyful Reading Co. is seeking an innovative, strategic, and mission-driven Head of Content & Curriculum to unlock our next stage of product growth, while ensuring we stay committed to our joyful reading ethos.

Reporting to the VP of Product, the Head of Content & Curriculum will lead content strategy and curriculum management across our product portfolio.

You will be the driving force behind product management and content development for a new Joyful Reading Co. platform that supports the science of reading through a guided agency framework aligned to our company's mission of making reading fun and full of joy. Additionally, you will lead curriculum alignment initiatives across the Joyful product portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end product content development and product management for a new content platform, in collaboration with our publishing partner, engineering, and design. Establish and own the content and product roadmaps for the platform.
  • Create and execute on a strategy for rapid content development, including the platform’s reading challenge design and engagement activities.
  • Build, coach, and manage a team of contractors to produce content for the platform.
  • Collaborate with our publishing partner to select the corpus of articles and books that fuel the platform.
  • Take a user-first approach to development, consistently seeking input from our clients, team, and experts through user interviews, surveys, and market analysis.
  • Serve as the resident expert on curriculum alignment across Beanstack, Comics Plus, the Reading Motivation Index, and emerging platforms, shaping strategy and influencing key product decisions.
  • Own functional requirements and pedagogical guidance for curriculum-aligned features like future iterations of Comprehension Book Talks with Benny.
  • Seek out, understand, and leverage existing use cases for curriculum alignment in Joyful product, e.g. identifying teachers that use Comics Plus content or Book Talks with Benny in their classrooms.
2. Supplemental Content & Support
  • Develop a strategy and production plan for creating high-impact curriculum-aligned supplementary resources, teacher guides, and learning tools for Joyful Reading products to increase classroom utility and adoption.
  • Play a key advisory role in the Beanstack reading challenge strategy, developing and testing ways to incorporate pedagogy into our challenge templates.
  • Collaborate with school sales and client success to grow revenue and client engagement including joining sales and success customer meetings as needed.
  • Partner with marketing to promote the educational value of our product suite, including writing white papers and blog posts, hosting or joining webinars, speaking at conferences and other needs that arise from time to time.
  • Work with partners to publish efficacy studies.
Qualifications & Experience
  • 2+ years of experience in K-12 EdTech product or content management.
  • 2+ years in a leadership or people-management role, with a proven track record of developing high-performing content teams.
  • Subject Matter Expertise and Experience: Experience as an educator, with deep understanding of K-12 curriculum standards, student agency, and modern reading instruction.
  • Product Mindset: Strong background in digital product management or product-adjacent content development; comfortable translating pedagogical goals into clear functional requirements for technical teams.
  • Strategic Execution: Proven capability to take large-scale initiatives from concept through execution.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional writer and communicator who can translate complex educational standards into engaging student resources and clear technical briefs.
  • AI Fluency: Experience using AI tools to enhance curriculum and product development, with a strong willingness to continue learning and innovating with AI technologies.
Salary and Benefits
  • Salary will range from $103,000 to $153,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience
