Job summary

Mesabi Metallics seeks a seasoned Civil Construction Leader for the Mesabi Integrated Steel Plant (ISP) Project. You will direct all civil construction activities, ensure safety and quality, and coordinate with EPC contractors, engineers, and project leadership to keep the project on schedule and within spec.

This role requires 25–30 years of experience in heavy industrial settings, a BS in Civil Engineering or related field, and proven success delivering complex greenfield or brownfield

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
• 25-30 years of civil construction leadership experience on large-scale industrial or heavy manufacturing projects.
• Experience leading civil construction across greenfield or brownfield industrial plants.
• Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, foundations, concrete work, site development, and infrastructure for heavy facilities.
• Demonstrated leadership managing large multidisciplinary construction teams and subcontractors.
• Strong understanding of construction safety programs, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent planning, scheduling, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and direct all civil construction activities across the Mesabi ISP Project site, including earthworks, foundations, concrete, buildings, and infrastructure.
• Develop and implement the civil construction strategy, execution plans, and work sequencing with the master schedule.
• Coordinate with EPC contractors, civil subcontractors, and engineering teams to align with design specs.
• Oversee site development activities including grading, drainage, roads, foundations, utilities, and site infrastructure.
• Manage civil construction quality control, ensuring compliance with specs, codes, and standards.
• Monitor progress, productivity, resources, and resolve schedule and execution risks.
• Lead safety programs and ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Manage budgets, cost tracking, and change management processes.
• Interface with regulatory inspectors and project leadership on civil matters.
• Support commissioning readiness by aligning civil scope completion with milestones.

Role Summary:
Responsible for leading and directing all civil construction activities across the Mesabi Integrated Steel Plant (ISP) Project, including site development, foundations, structural civil works, and infrastructure construction. The role ensures civil construction is executed safely, on schedule, and to specification across the entire plant footprint, in coordination with EPC contractors, engineering teams, and project leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and direct all civil construction activities across the entire Mesabi ISP Project site, including earthworks, foundations, structural concrete, buildings, and civil infrastructure
• Develop and implement the overall civil construction strategy, execution plans, and work sequencing in alignment with the master project schedule
• Coordinate with EPC contractors, civil subcontractors, and engineering teams to ensure construction activities align with design specifications and project requirements
• Oversee site development activities including grading, drainage, roads, foundations, underground utilities, and site infrastructure
• Manage civil construction quality control, ensuring compliance with engineering specifications, codes, and industry standards
• Monitor construction progress, productivity, and resource allocation, identifying and resolving schedule and execution risks
• Lead safety programs and ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards across civil construction activities
• Manage civil construction budgets, cost tracking, and change management processes
• Coordinate interfaces between civil construction and other disciplines including structural steel, mechanical, electrical, and process equipment installation
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of civil construction managers, superintendents, and field engineers
• Interface with regulatory inspectors, third-party quality assurance teams, and project leadership on civil construction matters
• Support commissioning readiness by ensuring civil scope completion aligns with mechanical and process completion milestones

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
• 25-30 years of experience in civil construction leadership roles on large-scale industrial or heavy manufacturing projects
• Proven experience leading civil construction across an entire greenfield or brownfield industrial plant
• Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, foundations, concrete work, site development, and infrastructure construction for heavy industrial facilities
• Demonstrated leadership managing large, multidisciplinary construction teams and subcontractors
• Strong understanding of construction safety programs, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance
• Excellent planning, scheduling, and stakeholder management skills

Working Conditions

• Based in the United States, dedicated full-time to the Mesabi ISP Project
• On-site presence required throughout the construction phase of the project

• Direct experience leading civil construction for a greenfield integrated steel plant or comparable heavy industrial project
