Position Summary
The Head of Channels is responsible for the strategy, product ownership, development, commercialization and ongoing management of GTP’s client-facing channels and integrated transaction‑banking capabilities. The role will bring together cash‑management channels, Business Bridge Premier, APIs, host‑to‑host/file transmission and embedded‑finance capabilities into a coherent client proposition, with a particular emphasis on clients operating between the U.S., Hong Kong and China.
The role will define the future‑state channel strategy, translate client and business needs into a prioritized roadmap, and ensure GTP leads business requirements and product direction while partnering closely with Technology and Operations on execution. The leader will also work across Consumer Banking, Business Banking and Digital Banking to identify opportunities for shared capabilities and investment rather than building duplicative solutions.
A central objective is to leverage East West Bank’s differentiated U.S.-Asia footprint to create global solutions that connect accounts, payments, FX, liquidity, trade and other relevant capabilities across markets and channels.
Primary Responsibilities
- Own GTP’s overall channel strategy and roadmap across cash‑management channels, Business Bridge Premier, APIs, host‑to‑host/file transmission and embedded finance.
- Establish a coherent future‑state architecture and client experience across channels, with clear positioning by client segment and use case.
- Lead product management, prioritization, commercialization, lifecycle management and revenue management for GTP channels.
- Ensure roadmap decisions reflect client needs, commercial opportunity, risk, operational readiness, technology dependencies and measurable returns.
- Develop consistent approaches to pricing, billing, entitlements, security, fraud controls, onboarding, servicing and client experience across channels.
Cross‑Border & Global Capabilities
- Make cross‑border a core design principle of the channel strategy, with initial emphasis on the U.S.-Hong Kong-China corridor and the ability to extend solutions globally where commercially justified.
- Partner with Hong Kong and China teams to develop integrated solutions for clients operating across markets, including account visibility, payments, FX, collections, liquidity, trade and information reporting.
- Translate East West Bank’s U.S.-Asia expertise and client franchise into differentiated cross‑border packages and digital experiences.
- Identify capability gaps and prioritize practical solutions that improve the experience for clients with accounts and operating needs across multiple countries.
- Work with GTP product leaders to expose new payment rails, currencies, FX & trade capabilities and other products consistently through the appropriate client channels.
Innovation, Vendors & Fintech Partnerships
- Own the business relationship and strategic roadmap with key channel vendors and technology partners.
- Evaluate vendors and fintechs that can accelerate new capabilities, including payment connectivity, last‑mile delivery, wallets, ERP connectivity, information reporting and embedded‑finance use cases.
- Develop partnership, referral and integration models where third‑party capabilities provide a faster or more compelling route to market than an internally built solution.
- Ensure vendor proposals are assessed for client value, economics, integration effort, scalability, operational support, controls and regulatory requirements before investment decisions are made.
- Work within the Bank’s technology‑investment and third‑party governance processes while maintaining speed and commercial focus.
Enterprise Channel Partnership
- Partner with Consumer Banking, Business Banking, Digital Banking and Technology channel teams to identify reusable capabilities and joint solutions that benefit multiple client segments.
- Help define the strategic positioning and evolution of Business Bridge Premier and other business‑banking platforms so investments are coordinated rather than fragmented by channel or business line.
- Establish shared roadmaps and governance where capabilities such as FX, payments, reporting, authentication, fraud controls or client onboarding can be leveraged across platforms.
- Represent GTP requirements in relevant enterprise technology and channel governance forums.
- Build the channel strategy from client needs and observable market opportunities, not solely from technology roadmaps.
- Partner with GTP Sales, relationship managers and client‑facing teams to identify pain points, capture client feedback and translate demand into prioritized capabilities.
- Develop business cases with clear adoption, revenue, deposit, FX, fee and client‑retention objectives for major channel investments.
- Drive adoption and commercialization of new capabilities through sales enablement, client communications, training and performance measurement.
- Monitor channel usage, economics, client experience and product penetration and use those insights to continuously refine the roadmap.
Cross‑Functional Integration & Governance
- Serve as the business integrator for channel requirements across GTP Product, Sales, Client Delivery, Technology, Operations, Risk, Compliance, BSA/AML, Information Security, Finance and Legal.
- Establish clear business ownership, decision rights and governance for channel initiatives, with GTP accountable for product strategy and requirements and Technology/Operations accountable for execution within their areas.
- Ensure risk and control requirements are incorporated into product design and channel changes from inception rather than addressed after implementation.
- Maintain disciplined portfolio governance across strategic, regulatory and technology initiatives, including prioritization, dependencies, milestones and benefits realization.
Initial Areas of Focus
- Define an integrated strategy for Business Bridge Premier and adjacent business/digital channels.
- Accelerate API, host‑to‑host and embedded‑finance capabilities, including ERP connectivity.
- Improve the cross‑border digital experience for U.S., Hong Kong and China clients, including account visibility, payment transparency and access to relevant FX and foreign‑currency capabilities.
- Expand the ability to distribute new currencies, payment rails and partner capabilities through multiple front ends.
- Develop a structured approach to fintech and vendor partnerships for cross‑border payment and embedded‑finance capabilities.
- Create common channel standards for pricing, billing, onboarding, authentication, risk controls and customer experience where appropriate.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in transaction banking, treasury management, payments, digital channels, cash management or related financial‑services disciplines.
- Deep experience managing commercial banking channels such as online cash management, APIs/open banking, host‑to‑host/file connectivity and embedded finance.
- Strong understanding of cross‑border payments, FX, global cash management and the needs of internationally active commercial clients.
- Demonstrated experience setting product strategy and roadmaps and delivering complex capabilities across business, technology, operations and risk functions.
- Experience managing major technology vendors and developing partnerships with fintechs or other third‑party providers.
- Strong commercial orientation, including development of business cases, product economics, adoption strategies and measurable growth objectives.
- Ability to influence across a highly matrixed organization and integrate requirements from multiple business and control functions.
- U.S.-Asia transaction‑banking experience, particularly involving Hong Kong and China, strongly preferred.
What Success Looks Like in 12-18 Months
- A clearly articulated and governed GTP channel strategy aligned to the Bank’s cross‑border growth priorities.
- A prioritized U.S.-Hong Kong-China capability roadmap with accountable owners, business cases and measurable client and financial outcomes.
- Improved coordination among GTP, Technology, Consumer, Business and Digital Banking on shared channel investments.
- Accelerated API, host‑to‑host and embedded‑finance delivery, with increased client adoption and integration of relevant partner capabilities.
- Stronger vendor management and a repeatable framework for evaluating and deploying fintech capabilities.
- More consistent client experience, pricing, controls and product availability across GTP channels.
- Demonstrable growth in cross‑border client adoption, product penetration, payments/FX activity and channel‑enabled revenue.
