Freeman's Auction House in Philadelphia seeks a Head of Sale to oversee successful auctions, drive business development, and secure profitable consignments while upholding scholarly research, cataloging and client service.

You will lead strategy, manage budgets and teams, travel to regional offices as needed, and collaborate across TEPC and other departments to expand consignments and revenue.

Qualifications

• Proven track record in auction leadership and consignments.
• Strong leadership and team-management experience.
• Deep expertise in the department's collecting category.

Responsibilities

• Meet department and revenue goals for consignments and sales.
• Proactively source and secure works for sale.
• Develop new opportunities with top dealers, institutions, and collectors.
• Travel to regional offices to support business development and consignments.
• Collaborate with TEPC and other departments to reach new consignors.
• Identify selling points and support outreach and bidding at auction.
• Review consignments, marketing content and provenance research.
• Maintain catalog accuracy, provenance, and attribution decisions.
• Manage consignment costs, terms, margins, and logistics.
• Ensure successful delivery of sales through marketing and client outreach.
• Engage with clients at previews, discuss property, track interest, and execute bids.
• Stay informed on scholarship, exhibitions, and art market trends.
• Train Cataloguers and Department Coordinators as necessary.
• Monitor market trends, results, and demand to inform strategy.
• Manage sale budgets, revenue targets, and performance.
