Job summary

Sulzer in Houston seeks a Head, Applications & Proposal Technology Americas to lead the Americas APT, engineering, proposal generation, estimation support, value engineering and technical support functions. You will guide technical solutions and proposals for MTCS opportunities, ensuring on-time delivery and high quality.

The role partners with Sales, BD and customers, driving win strategies, mentoring engineers, and shaping standards to enable profitable growth across the region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master of Science in Chemical Engineering.
• 10+ years in mass transfer, separation tech, refining, LNG or related industries.
• Leadership experience in applying engineering, proposal, estimation or technical teams.
• Strong knowledge of trays, structured packing, random packing and revamps.
• Strong commercial acumen and customer-facing experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Americas APT organization including engineering, proposal gen, estimation support, value engineering and SME.
• Own proposal generation for new products, replacements, revamps and MTCS offerings.
• Ensure on-time, technically accurate and competitive proposals.
• Provide technical direction to sales, proposal teams and customers.
• Partner with Sales/BD to develop winning technical solutions and growth.
• Support customer meetings, technical reviews and strategic pursuits.
• Lead evaluation of installed-base opportunities and performance projects.
• Establish engineering standards, best practices, and development programs.
• Manage regional workload, prioritization and capacity planning.
• Lead, coach and develop application engineers, process engineers, proposal specialists and SMEs.

About the role

The Head, Applications & Proposal Technology (APT) Americas is responsible for leading the Americas Applications, Process Engineering, Proposal Generation, Estimation Support, Value Engineering and Technical Support functions. The role leads development of technical solutions and proposals for new products, replacement-in-kind opportunities, turnaround replacement components, revamps, upgrades, debottlenecking projects and other MTCS opportunities while ensuring proposals are delivered on time, in full, and with high technical quality.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Lead the Americas APT organization including application engineering, process engineering, proposal generation, estimation support, value engineering and technical subject matter expertise.
• Own proposal generation activities for new products, replacement-in-kind opportunities, turnaround opportunities, revamps, upgrades, debottlenecking projects and other MTCS offerings.
• Ensure proposals are delivered on time and in full while maintaining technical accuracy, competitiveness and responsiveness.
• Provide technical support and direction to sales teams, proposal teams and customers.
• Partner with Sales and Business Development to develop winning technical solutions and support profitable growth.
• Support customer meetings, technical reviews and strategic pursuits.
• Lead technical evaluation of installed-base opportunities, revamps and performance improvement projects.
• Establish engineering standards, best practices, proposal processes and technical development programs.
• Manage regional engineering workload, prioritization and capacity planning.
• Lead, coach and develop application engineers, process engineers, proposal specialists and SMEs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Enable effective oversight and mentorship of application, process and proposal engineering teams.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in mass transfer, separation technology, refining, petrochemical, chemical processing, LNG or related industries.
• Leadership experience managing application engineering, proposal, estimation or technical organizations.
• Strong knowledge of trays, structured packing, random packing, internals, mist elimination, separators, static mixers and revamp solutions.
• Strong commercial acumen and customer‑facing experience.
