Job summary

North American Bancard seeks a Director of Applied AI Engineering to build and lead an AI-focused team delivering production-ready AI capabilities within banking and payments workflows.

The role emphasizes hands-on leadership, AI strategy, and collaboration across product, risk, and security to ensure compliant, auditable AI systems in a regulated environment. Remote work within the US is available.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering, ML or related field.
• 2+ years delivering production AI systems (LLMs/agents).
• 4+ years people management, hiring and mentoring.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS or related field.
• Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and communicate with leadership.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a high-performing Applied AI engineering team.
• Partner with Product, Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Risk to observe workflows and deploy AI solutions.
• Drive rapid discovery, prototyping, and production transitions of AI capabilities.
• Architect, deploy, and maintain production AI solutions including agents and ML models.
• Establish secure, modular integrations with least-privilege access.
• Own AI evaluation lifecycle with offline/online evals and KPIs.
• Oversee CI/CD, monitoring, incident response, latency, and cost optimization.
