Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Management or life sciences or equivalent experience.
• AALAS Technologist certification required, or Technologist certification within 18 months of appointment.
• 1 year of supervisory experience in a laboratory animal facility required (or completion of 20 hours of Management Training Seminars/Program).
• Requires ability to obtain FBI/CDC clearance after Security Risk Assessment.
• Barrier facility experience preferred.
• Basic computer skills with Outlook, Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

• Develop and modify animal care policies and procedures to promote high-quality, cost-effective operations.
• Perform hiring interviews and submit hiring recommendations.
• Provide job performance training and documentation for animal care staff.
• Prepare and coach staff for AALAS certification.
• Interact with faculty, EH&S, and other departments to ensure high-quality animal care services.
• Oversee efficiency and effectiveness of work by direct reports.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment for day-to-day operations.
• Maintain accurate records (logs, health reports, cage cards, autoclave/cage-wash, census).
• Conduct performance evaluations and subsequent documentation.
• Perform routine rounds to monitor facility operations and staff morale.
• Identify and report needed repairs to facilities/equipment.
• Contribute to annual budget projections by tracking materials and repairs.
• Provide weekend and holiday oversight as required.
• Perform other duties as required.
