Job summary

Thomson Reuters Labs is seeking a Director of Applied Research to define the technical vision for AI-powered search and knowledge systems. You will lead a high-performing, globally distributed team of researchers and engineers, driving research-to-production transitions and customer-focused AI solutions that leverage Thomson Reuters’ unique data assets.

You will shape strategy across retrieval, ranking, RAG, NLP, and large language models, and collaborate with product teams to deliver

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, AI, ML, NLP, IR or closely related field.
• 8+ years of industry experience building and deploying production AI systems at scale.
• Proven track record of taking ML/AI from research to production with measurable impact.
• Strong publication record in leading AI/IR/NLP venues.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical vision for AI-powered search, discovery, and knowledge systems.
• Build and lead a high-performing, globally distributed team of engineers and scientists.
• Lead development of enterprise-grade AI solutions integrated with Thomson Reuters products.
• Partner with product and engineering to translate customer needs into scalable AI applications.
• Ensure robust transfer from research to production and maintain a customer-centric focus.
