Job Description

Purpose of Position: Under the direction of the Director of Nursing/Associate Director of Nursing/Asst. Director of Nursing, the Head Nurse is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the quality of care on the Medical Units. She/he manages the unit to ensure quality care for all patients and implements the Nursing Department Philosophy and Objectives.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Receive reports by making rounds with staff.
  2. Coordinate patient care with the multidisciplinary team.
  3. Assess patient needs and establish care plans based on Nursing Assessment and Diagnosis.
  4. Maintain standards of care by developing and implementing individualized care plans.
  5. Evaluate Nursing Care Plans and patient responses, making modifications as needed.
  6. Delegate assignments based on staff competence and patient care priorities.
  7. Supervise staff in assessments, documentation, and evaluation of Nursing Care Plans.
  8. Supervise professional and unprofessional personnel.
  9. Participate in developing patient care priorities with physicians and the team.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Valid New York State license and current registration as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  2. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
  3. At least one (1) year of experience as a registered nurse.
