Job summary

Century Golf Partners seeks a Head Golf Course Mechanic to lead a comprehensive preventive maintenance program, oversee repairs, and manage equipment readiness for a high‑quality guest experience. You will supervise maintenance staff, document parts/labor, and place orders for needed supplies.

The role requires multi‑engine experience, welding (MIG/TIG), hydraulics, and electrical systems, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and cost control. A Class D license and tool ownership are needed.

Qualifications

• Two–Three years mechanical experience including small combustion engines, hydraulic theory, low voltage circuitry, and welding.
• Three years journeyman level experience with power equipment, gasoline, diesel, and electric engines.
• Golf maintenance mechanic experience preferred.
• Associate Degree preferred in a related field.
• Two years experience on golf course equipment or equivalent training/experience.
• Valid Class D driver’s license.
• Ability to obtain three equipment maintenance certifications within two years.
• Must supply own tools for the position.
• Ability to use hand tools and self-propelled machinery within golf maintenance.
• Ability to use mobile devices, computer, fax, scanner, phone and copy machine.
• MIG and TIG welding experience plus soldering and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide a guest experience of outstanding quality.
• Instruct and train staff on proper cleaning and safe operation of equipment.
• Prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work.
• Inspect, diagnose, adjust, and repair mechanical defects in maintenance equipment.
• Repair and adjust cutting mechanisms on mowing equipment.
• Maintain knowledge of internal combustion engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mowing gear.
• Recycle and dispose of hazardous waste materials properly.
• Serve as Safety Officer including MSDS updates and fire safety.
• Assist in purchasing maintenance equipment.
• Maintain monthly budget records for maintenance.
• Perform preventive maintenance and diagnose/repair engines and hydrostatic systems.
• Oversee repairs on golf carts and welding tasks for frames.
• Train operators to use equipment properly.
• Assist other mechanics with fleet maintenance.
• Use electronic test equipment to diagnose/repair equipment.
• Test vehicles and equipment; make service calls when broken down.
• Refurbish and overhaul equipment; replace worn parts and re-weld major parts.
• Work on gasoline, diesel, and electric equipment; explore alternative fuels.
• Design, modify, build or remove special equipment.
• Record work orders and inspections in fleet management software.
• Keep shop and tools clean and organized.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Head Golf Course Mechanic reports to the Superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program. This program includes scheduled maintenance, the repair of failing equipment, record keeping of parts and labor, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment and service. The Mechanic properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Superintendent. He or she places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance facility.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED

• Two – Three years mechanical experience including small combustion engines, hydraulic theory, low voltage circuitry, and welding. Three (3) years experience as a journeyman skill level mechanic working with power equipment, gasoline, diesel, and electric engines.
• Golf Maintenance mechanic experience is preferred.
• Associate Degree preferred in a related field.
• Two (2) years of experience working on golf course equipment or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Possession of a valid Class D driver’s license.
• Ability to obtain three (3) equipment maintenance certifications within two (2) years of employment.
• Must supply own tools as required for this position.
• Must have the ability to utilize all manner of hand equipment and self propelled machinery within the scope of golf maintenance.
• Must have the ability to use mobile devices, computer, fax, scanner, phone and copy machine.
• MIG and TIG Welding experience as well as soldering and electrical systems.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide a guest experience of outstanding quality.
• Instructs and trains golf course maintenance employees on the proper cleaning and safe operation of equipment.
• Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work.
• Inspects, diagnoses, adjusts, and repairs mechanical defects/failures in maintenance equipment on a regular basis.
• Repairs and adjusts cutting mechanisms on heavy and light mowing equipment.
• Have a working knowledge of internal combustion engines, hydraulic theory, low voltage electrical systems, and mowing equipment.
• Complies with the proper recycling and/or disposal of hazardous waste materials and fluids.
• Performs the duties of Safety Officer of the department including first aid supplies, MSDS updating and documenting, fire safety, and compliance.
• Performs other duties as directed by his or her supervisor.
• Assists in the purchasing and selection of maintenance equipment.
• Maintains monthly budget records and cost analysis of maintenance equipment.
• Maintains a preventive maintenance program on all equipment and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies within budget.
• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnose, and repair various types of engines including two and four cycle, air cooled, and liquid cooled.
• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnose, and repair equipment involving hydrostatic drive systems, transmissions, electrical, exhaust, hydraulics and brakes, reel technology, drive trains, steering, suspension, and cooling systems for optimum operating efficiency and compliance with safety requirements and regulations.
• Grind and lap reel blades for optimum cut quality.
• Oversee repairs on golf carts.
• Perform welding tasks for frame repair and fabricate parts as needed.
• Train operators to use equipment properly and safely.
• Assist other mechanics with maintenance and repairs on larger Fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Utilize sophisticated electronic test equipment to diagnose and repair equipment.
• Operationally test vehicles and equipment.
• Make service calls for vehicles and equipment that break down.
• Refurbish and conduct complete overhauls on equipment.
• Repair or replace worn parts and re‑weld major parts to restore to like‑new condition.
• Work on gasoline, diesel, electric equipment.
• May work on alternative fuels/technology and hybrid powered equipment.
• Design, modify, build, and install or remove special equipment.
• Record equipment work orders and inspections in fleet information management system software.
• Clean and maintain the shop, shop tools, and equipment.
