Job summary

Boston College Libraries seeks a collaborative, innovative, and service-oriented professional to serve as Head Librarian of the Educational Resource Center (ERC). Reporting to the Associate University Librarian, the Head Librarian provides leadership for ERC staff, operations, and facilities while serving as the primary liaison to the Lynch School of Education and Human Development (LSEHD).

The position supports teaching, learning, and research across the LSEHD by delivering advanced research

Qualifications

  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited school or advanced degree with library experience
  • Minimum five years of post-master’s professional experience in education or librarianship
  • Demonstrated leadership with staff management and budget oversight
  • Knowledge of educational research methods, instructional practices, and information resources
  • Experience providing research assistance, information literacy instruction, and faculty support
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide vision, leadership, and management for ERC operations, services, collections, and facilities
  • Supervise and mentor the ERC team
  • Manage ERC budgets, student employment budgets, and collection funds
  • Lead collection development for educational resources, including print and electronic monographs and journals
  • Provide research consultations, reference services, and instructional programs that support student and faculty research in education and related fields
  • Promote awareness and use of library collections and services through outreach, communication, and engagement activities
  • Participate in library-wide strategic planning, committees, task forces, and professional organizations

Job Description

Boston College Libraries seeks a collaborative, innovative,and service-oriented professional to serve as Head Librarian of the EducationalResource Center (ERC). Reporting to the Associate University Librarian forAccess, Administration, and Staff Development, the Head Librarian providesleadership for the ERC, overseeing its staff, operations, collections,services, and facilities while serving as the primary library liaison to theLynch School of Education and Human Development (LSEHD). The Head Librarian plays a key role in supporting teaching,learning, and research across the LSEHD by providing advanced researchassistance, library instruction, collection development, and faculty outreach.The position also contributes to strategic library initiatives and representsthe interests of the ERC within the broader Boston College Librariesorganization.

About the Educational Resource Center

The Educational Resource Center serves the specializedteaching, learning, and research needs of the Lynch School of Education andHuman Development, supporting undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. TheERC maintains extensive collections, educational resources, and specializedassessment materials while serving the broader Boston College community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide vision, leadership, and management for all ERC operations, services, collections, and facilities

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $95,100 to $118,900; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

Master of Library Science (MLS/MLIS) degree from an ALA-accredited institution or an advanced degree in Education with significant library experience

Minimum of five years of post-master’s professional experience in education, librarianship, or a closely related academic setting

Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience, including staff management and budget oversight

Knowledge of educational research methodologies, trends, instructional practices, and information resources

Experience providing research assistance, information literacy instruction, and faculty support

Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as an education liaison librarian, reference librarian, instructional librarian, or curriculum materials specialist
  • Three or more years of management experience in an academic or educational environment
  • Experience working with teacher education programs, curriculum collections, or educational assessment resources
Work Schedule

Occasional evening and weekend attendance may be requiredfor library events, programs, or operational needs. Schedule flexibility isnecessary to support service and staffing requirements
