Job summary

Edwardsville YMCA is seeking a Head Coach for its Competitive Gymnastics Team to lead practices, prepare athletes for competition, and mentor assistant coaches. You will collaborate with the Director of Gymnastics to establish vision, culture, and competitive goals for the program while promoting YMCA values and youth development.

The role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with a commitment to safety and positive team culture.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in recreation, kinesiology, education, sports management, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of two years of competitive gymnastics coaching experience required.
• Previous USA Gymnastics competitive coaching experience preferred.
• Current CPR/AED, First Aid, SafeSport certifications required or ability to obtain within established timeframes.

Responsibilities

• Lead coaching plans for Bronze and above team practices; establish vision and competitive goals with the Director of Gymnastics.
• Plan, organize and lead practices to develop confident, skilled athletes and promote teamwork and sportsmanship.
• Develop athletes through technique, conditioning, and safe skill progression appropriate to age and ability.
• Prepare athletes for competitions by developing routines, evaluating readiness, and coaching during meets.
• Supervise, mentor, and support assistant coaches with consistent standards and feedback.
• Evaluate athlete progress and collaborate on team placement and long-term development.
• Identify athletes with competitive potential and support evaluations and growth of the program.
• Foster positive relationships with athletes and families to promote development and retention.
• Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, USA Gymnastics rules, SafeSport, and safety standards.
• Maintain attendance records, registrations, and required documentation.
• Assist with exhibitions, camps, clinics, fundraising activities, and events.
• Inspect equipment and training areas for safety and report concerns promptly.
• Attend staff meetings, competitions, and required certifications.
