Job summary

Edwardsville YMCA is seeking an Assistant Swim Team Coach to support our competitive swim team under the supervision of the Aquatics Director. You will help develop swimmers of all ages and abilities and contribute to a high-achieving team environment.

The role requires a strong background in competitive swimming, effective coaching techniques, and a passion for athlete development. You will promote a safe, positive culture aligned with YMCA policies.

Qualifications

• Lifeguard certification within 30 days of hire.
• Proven experience with swim teams.
• Coaching certification preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of competitive swimming techniques, training methods and race strategies.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment.
• Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing and implementing training programs for swimmers of various ages and abilities, focusing on technique, endurance and race strategy.
• Conduct structured practice sessions and drills with the Head Coach to improve performance.
• Provide feedback to swimmers to improve skills and technique.
• Help prepare swimmers for meets, set performance goals, and develop meet strategies.
• Support the Head Coach at meets, including warm-ups, races and cooldowns.
• Foster a positive team environment emphasizing sportsmanship, discipline and camaraderie.
• Track swimmers' progress, maintain attendance and record competition results.
• Communicate practice schedules, meet details and team policies with swimmers, parents and guardians.
