• Prepare and submit inventory of equipment and uniforms after each season.
• Coordinate transportation requests with the Transportation Director with sufficient lead time.
• Travel with team to away events and ensure no equipment is left behind.
• Report scores to media and provide accurate statistics for press releases.
• Motivate athletes with praise; exercise self-control during practices and games.
• Schedule and organize practices and events with cooperation among coaches.
• Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments for long‑term records.
• Work with assistant and junior high coaches for program continuity.
• Complete required annual trainings and perform other duties as assigned.

Job Title: Head Coach
Reports To: Activities Director and Secondary Principal
Supervises: Assistant Coaches

Summary: The Alburnett Community School District employs the Head Coach to provide leadership, supervision, and organization of a specific athletic activity, and to carry out the objectives of the total athletic program including helping each participant achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline, and an increased level of self-esteem.

Essential Functions

• Be knowledgeable of rules, regulations and coaching techniques of the sport coached and of local rules and regulations regarding eligibility, good conduct, board policies, etc. regarding student athletes.
• Provide for the health and safety of the athletes with regard to physicals, insurance issues, equipment, practice procedures, emergency procedures, and the like.
• Establish a communication procedure with regard to informing students and parents of team rules, awards and lettering, state and local rules and regulations, and other communication, which will keep all informed for the purpose of eliminating misunderstandings.
• Provide for the proper care and set up of facilities prior to contests and practice.
• Provide for the proper care of equipment, and uniforms and the storage of equipment and uniforms including notifying the athletic director of the need for repair and/or replacement.
• Prepare and submit to the Activities Director an inventory of equipment and uniforms at the end of each season.
• Make requests for transportation needs to the Transportation Director in such a manner that allows sufficient time to arrange for a bus/van and driver.
• Travel to and from away athletic events with the team and be the last out of the visitor’s locker room to ensure no equipment is left behind nor that any damage has occurred.
• Report scores of games to the media as requested, providing accurate statistics, which will allow for the writing of positive reports by the media, as well as providing written press releases.
• Motivate athletes with praise and affirmation; avoid sarcasm, embarrassment and belittling; exercise self-control during practices and games and reflect positively upon the team, school, and yourself.
• Schedule and organize practices and events with a spirit of cooperation, recognizing the need for other coaches and directors of activities to work with many of the same students.
• Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments as required by the principal for the purpose of long-term record keeping.
• Work with Assistant Coaches and Junior High Coaches for the purpose of continuity of the program.
• Complete required annual trainings
• Performs other duties as may be assigned.
