Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is seeking a Head of Electrics to work in the BAM Harvey Theater. This full‑time position offers a salary of $56.08 hourly and is located at the Harvey Theater, Brooklyn, NY.
Contracted work begins October 2025.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with all stagehands, departments and production management to work with first‑class artists and companies to present cutting‑edge, internationally renowned performances and art.
- Perform and supervise electrical and lighting operation, installation and maintenance in the Harvey Theater as a working member of the crew.
- Lead, assign and supervise lighting crews performing diverse tasks while simultaneously performing own work assignments.
- Load‑in, hang, and focus light plots as well as install set, practical lighting and electrics in the BAM Harvey Theater.
- Identify crewing needs for productions and events in conjunction with BAM Production Staff and the Crew Chief; evaluate potential crew qualifications and ensure they match position requirements.
- Work with the Crew Chief and BAM Production Staff to ensure the crew consists of a diverse and equitable workforce.
- Enforce standards of operation in electrics and lighting that are safe for both personnel and equipment.
- Collaborate with BAM and Visiting Company Production Staff with advance planning for a show or event by interpreting ground plans and technical drawings.
- Create all necessary paperwork based on above information including rental lists, equipment purchases, running lists and expendables.
- Represent the Electrics Department in production meetings.
- Perform lighting and electrical maintenance throughout the BAM Harvey Theater.
Qualifications
- 10 years of experience in lighting and electrical stage work.
- Advanced knowledge of theatrical and scenic lighting, including the ability to interpret and read technical drawings and designs, and to create and execute the plan to install, operate, maintain and strike said scenery.
- Work will at times require working irregular hours and standing for extended periods of time while lifting and carrying equipment onstage; it will occasionally require pushing heavy weights or lifting and carrying weights up to 50 pounds with team assistance.
- Advanced knowledge of theatrical and arena lighting, including the ability to troubleshoot and operate light boards, lighting systems, moving and conventional lighting units and other equipment.
- ETCP Entertainment Theater and Arena Electric Certification within 364 days of hire date; certification must be kept up to date.
- Knowledge or expertise with Vectorworks, Lightwright, and/or Autocad a plus.
- Computer knowledge including e‑mail and web search ability.
- Union affiliation: if not currently a member, the successful candidate will be required to join IATSE Local 4.
Compensation and Benefits
- Commitment of 40 consecutive weeks with 40 hours per week.
