Responsibilities

  • Keep building and premises neat and clean at all times.
  • Shovels, plows and sands walks and entry areas as appropriate.
  • Check exits and panic bolts during operating hours.
  • Flag raising and lowering.
  • Clean classrooms daily and dust as needed.
  • Clean corridors daily and as needed throughout the day.
  • Disinfect toilets and floors daily and clean fixtures.
  • Wash windows inside and outside at least twice yearly.
  • Maintain school grounds and perform yard work as needed.
  • Supervise night custodians and check their work.
  • Keep floors clean and in good state of preservation.
  • Perform minor repairs and report major repairs.
  • Report damage to school property immediately.
  • Remain on premises during school hours and as required.
  • Open/close building and secure doors/windows; turn off lights and activate alarm.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and requisition replacements in advance.
  • Conduct ongoing general maintenance, upkeep and repair.
  • Move furniture/equipment as directed.
  • Check roofs, drains and gutters monthly.
  • Remove trash and wash floors in kitchen/cafeteria daily.
  • Store and dispose of waste per regulations.
  • Regulate HVAC systems for appropriate temperatures and efficiency.
  • Respond quickly to alarms and evacuations.
  • Unload trucks and distribute up to 100 pounds.
  • Follow safety procedures as required.
  • Unclog/clean drains and grease traps as needed.
  • Sweep, mop, strip, wax and seal floors.
  • Climb stairs or ladders as needed.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Be punctual and reliable.

General Description: To provide custodial services at assigned location(s) ensuring an attractive, sanitary, safe and efficient environment for students, staff and visitors in which to learn, play and develop.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times
  • Shovels, plows and sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate
  • Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building capacity
  • Flag raising and lowering
  • Cleans classrooms daily and dusts as needed
  • Cleans corridors daily and as needed throughout the day
  • Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilets and floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily
  • Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently as necessary
  • Perform yard keeping chores as necessary such as grass cutting, tree trimming to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition and keeps the grounds free from rubbish and weeds
  • Supervises night custodians and checks their work on a regular basis
  • Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation
  • Perform minor building repairs and reports major building repairs to the building administrator and facilities director
  • Report immediately to the building administrator and facility director when there is damage to any school property
  • Remain on the school premises during school hours and during non school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the building administrator or facilities supervisor
  • Responsible for opening and/or closing the building each school day and determining before leaving that all doors and windows are secured, all lights (except those for safety reasons) are turned off and the alarm is turned on
  • Keep an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitions needed for replacements from the facilities supervisor far enough in advance so they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodial duties
  • Conducts and ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair
  • Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the building administrator or facilities supervisor
  • Check roofs, roof drains and gutters at least once each month
  • Removes trash and garbage from the kitchen and cafeteria areas and thoroughly was the floors each day
  • Complies with all local, state and federal laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste
  • Regulates Heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.
  • Ability to respond quickly to alarms, evacuation of building, all clear for buildings
  • Must be able to unload trucks, move deliveries and distribute up to 100 pounds – distribute freight and school materials
  • Understand and implement safety procedures as required by the building administrator and facilities supervisor
  • Unclog and clean drains and grease traps as needed
  • Sweep, mop, strip, wax and seal floors
  • Must be able to climb a step stool or ladder
  • Does other related work as required by the Building administrator and Facilities Director
  • Must be punctual and reliable

The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb on to ladders and stepladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and waist more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails, salt, bulk furniture and unloading trucks. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work using ladders, scaffolding, mechanical lifts and District vehicles. Ability to spend most of the work day standing, lifting and walking. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment. Required to properly use safety equipment to prevent injury to self or others
  • Must be able to unload trucks, move deliveries and distribute up to 100 pounds – distribute freight and school materials
  • Must be able to climb a step stool or ladder

Terms of Employment:Salary and work year as determined by the union contract

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support service personnel.
