Qualifications

• Operate kitchen equipment including convection oven, gas range, steamer, mixer, tilt-skillet, slicer, microwave and dishwasher.
• Lift up to 50 pounds and be able to stoop, crouch and grasp.
• Background clearance, physical and drug/alcohol screening required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare all meals according to menus and recipes for specific diets and substitutions.
• Present menu items attractively and on time.
• Maintain kitchen equipment to meet codes and regulations.
• Check food requests and use leftovers where possible.
• Complete tasks in a timely, efficient manner.
• Lifting is required; safety belt worn during shift.
• Maintain hair restraints and proper attire/shoes.
• Label and organize menu items for each diet/substitution.
• Keep accurate records and logs for meals and substitutions.
• Prep for next day’s production and notify supervisor of needed items.
• Complete required training.
• Rotate inventory; date and label items properly.
• Ensure kitchen equipment stays in code-compliant condition.
• Act as mandated reporter for incidents involving students.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Prepare food for the Metro East Elementary campus and transport meals before breakfast/lunch.
• Shop for groceries for both campuses twice a month.

STANDARD OF PERFORMANCE:

The Cook prepares food for the students on both Glen Carbon and Edwardsville campuses, ensuring that activity occurs in a safe sanitary manner and following menus and diet guidelines. Prepares food for the School’s staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. 1. Prepare all meals according to menus and recipes allowing for each specific diet and substitutions.
2. 2. All menu items should be in an attractive manner with good taste and appeal and on time
3. 3. All kitchen equipment is maintained to meet all applicable codes and regulations at all times.
4. 4. Check food request/field trips before beginning to prepare meal utilize leftovers were possible.
5. 5. Complete all tasks in a timely efficient manner.
6. 6. Lifting is required, safety belt must be worn during entire shift
7. 7. Effective hair restraints required, along with proper attire and shoes during work schedule.
8. 8. Make sure all menu items are present on proper cart and labeled for individual including necessary diets, substitutions nourishment, supplement as diet order as prescribed at all times
9. 9. Maintain accurate records prior to end of shift break log, meals substitutions.
10. 10. Prep completed for next days production before shifts ends. Please notify person in charge of any needed items
11. 11. Successful completion of all required training
12. 12. Make sure inventory items are properly rotated and all items are returned to proper shelf, covered, dated, and labeled.
13. 13. Kitchen equipment is kept up to codes at all times
14. 14. Assumes responsibility as a mandated reporter concerning incidents of purported abuse/neglect of students as outlined in the agency’s policies and procedures.
15. 15. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
16. 16. Prepare food for the Metro East Elementary campus and safely transport the cook food prior to start of breakfast and lunch.
