Job summary

Applitrack is seeking an Assistant Cook for the Northlake, IL school district to provide healthy meals within a clean environment.

The role covers food preparation, cashier duties during meal times, and inventory tasks, with 175 work days annually and benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Two positions available; requires a high school diploma and basic computer skills. This position reports to the Nutritional Services Director.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare all food for the daily meal program.
• Pack lunch bags for the primary, intermediate schools and distribute using portable ovens.
• Order and store ice cream, milk, napkins, straws etc.
• Daily enter all prepayments on the computer and makes additional daily entries as necessary.
• Cashier during all meal periods on a daily basis.
• Refill condiments and clean condiment area between meal periods.
• Replenish silverware and trays for each lunch period.
• Assist with cleaning of the service area and the kitchen.
• Oversee use and cleaning of ovens and burners.
• Assist with the unpacking and storing of all supplies.

Qualifications: High School Diploma, experience with food preparation, and basic understanding and use of computers

Reports to: Nutritional Services Director/Nutritional Services Supervisor/Head Cook

Evaluation: As per association agreement

Work Calendar: 175 work days, or as per association agreement

Position Goal: To provide healthy, nutritious, attractive meals to students within a clean environment which meets all State of Illinois health codes

Rate of Pay/Benefits: See attached salary schedule per the negotiated agreement. The position includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits

The Assistant Cook shall be responsible for the following duties and perform other duties that may be assigned by the Nutritional Services Director, Nutritional Services Supervisor, Head Cook/Kitchen Supervisor, or Administration:

Superintendent/Board:

• Observe and adhere to all Board of Education policies and regulations, and all administrative rules and procedures

Building:

• Assist in preparing all food for the daily meal program
• Pack lunch bags for the primary, intermediate schools and distribute using portable ovens
• Order and store ice cream, milk, napkins, straws etc.
• Daily enter all prepayments on the computer and makes additional daily entries as necessary
• Prepare cash box, open computer, and shut down/lock-up computer on a daily basis
• Cashier during all meal periods on a daily basis
• Refill condiments and clean condiment area between meal periods
• Replenish silverware and trays for each lunch period
• Assist with cleaning of the service area and the kitchen
• Oversee use and cleaning of ovens and burners
• Assist with the unpacking and storing of all supplies

• Wear appropriate clothing, plastic gloves, hair cover etc.
• Exhibit confidentiality in relation to students, parents and staff
• Exercise good judgment, tact and discretion
• Work effectively and respectively with others
• Remain current in the use of First Aid, CPR, Heimlich Maneuver,

EPI Pen and the AED (if required by Administration)

• Be knowledgeable of and implement the District Safety Plan

Physical Requirements:

• Frequent and prolonged standing, walking and bending
• Ability to move freely around the building
• Exposure to noise and activity levels associated with school life
