Job summary

  • Availability for weekend and evening work.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of university students, personnel, media contacts, facilities users, and external stakeholders.

Job description

Job Summary: The head coach will be responsible for all aspects of the program, including student‑athlete recruitment, retention, fundraising, conditioning, practice and game planning, scheduling contests and coordinating travel.

Responsibilities
  • Manage daily operations of a DivisionIII intercollegiate program per Vermont State University, NCAA, and Little East Conference guidelines.
  • Prepare for practices and games.
  • Supervise assistant coaching staff.
  • Recruit and retain qualified student‑athletes.
  • Oversee academic success and welfare of student‑athletes.
  • Assist in game management and athletic event coordination.
  • Perform administrative duties within the Athletics and Recreation Department as assigned.
Supervision

Receives general supervision from the Director of Athletics. Exercises general supervision over assistant coaches, graduate assistants, student workers, and interns.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Understanding of the educational goals and objectives of Vermont State University, including accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Understanding of the psychological and cultural characteristics of economically and educationally disadvantaged students, especially in rural settings.
  • Awareness of developmental, holistic, proactive approaches to student success.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with technologies such as SSE, Colleague, Self‑Service, Slate, Microsoft products, and Perceptive Content.
  • Record of accountability, timeliness, organizational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to positively influence student skill development (communication, leadership, academics, technical skills, non‑cognitive skills).

Schedule & Compensation

Weekly hours: 37.5.

Salary: $50,000 – $55,000 per year.

Exempt Category: S12.
