Mid-Pacific Institute in Hawaii seeks a Head Coach to develop student-athletes in Judo across middle and high school. The role involves creating practice schedules, mentoring staff, and collaborating with the Athletic Department to keep a competitive program.
This is a temporary, on-call season position with fewer than 20 hours per week; compensation includes a $3,500 seasonal stipend paid at season end.
$3,500 stipend paid one time at the end of each season.
The Head Coach is responsible for developing student‑athletes in the sport of Judo at all levels of the program (middle and high school). Additional responsibilities include developing regular practice schedules, recruiting and mentoring assistant and lower‑level coaches as needed, and collaborating with the Athletic Department to maintain a competitive and well‑rounded program. The position is temporary, seasonal, and may be renewed based on program needs.
This is an in‑person, on‑call position requiring fewer than 20 hours per week during the Judo seasons.
Effective communication with the Athletic Department, coaching staff, maintenance staff, faculty/staff, student‑athletes, parents, and the broader Mid‑Pacific athletic community. Must be well organized, meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and serve as a positive role model.
The employee must regularly stand, walk, bend, reach, squat, kneel, twist, push, pull, balance, and use hands and arms while coaching and supervising. The position requires the ability to demonstrate judo techniques, safely assist and spot students, and lift or move equipment up to approximately 25 pounds. Daily problem‑solving, informed decision‑making, data interpretation, effective organization, clear verbal and written communication, and thoughtful planning.
Typical judo program equipment including training mats, protective gear, uniforms, first aid, and emergency response equipment. Utilization of computers, tablets, email, Google Workspace, and other technology for communication, scheduling, record‑keeping, and program administration. May operate school vehicles to transport equipment if authorized.
Indoor frequently; occasional outdoor activities in loud noise, cold, or hot temperatures.
