Job summary

SALARY

$2,500 Stipend paid one time at the end of each season

JOB SUMMARY

The Head Coach is responsible for developing student-athletes in the sport of Sideline Cheer at the High School level (Varsity). Sideline Cheer season will take place during the Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball seasons. Additional responsibilities include developing regular practice schedules, recruiting and mentoring assistant and lower-level coaches as needed, and collaborating with the Athletic Department to maintain a competitive and well-rounded program.

In addition to coaching the Sideline Cheer program, the Head Coach will supervise staff within the program, and evaluate and develop High School athletes.

This is a temporary, seasonal position that concludes at the end of the Sideline Cheer seasons. Coaches who are invited to return for a future season will be offered a new temporary appointment based on program needs and approval from the Athletic Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes but is not limited to the following, as assigned by the Athletic Director/Assistant Athletic Director:

INSTRUCTION
  • Develop student-athletes through safe and effective drills, skills, strategies, and lesson planning.
  • Motivate and support student-athletes using positive reinforcement.
  • Provide off-season training opportunities to improve individual and team performance.
SUPERVISION DUTIES
  • Track daily attendance and communicate with student-athletes and parents regarding absences.
  • Monitor athlete eligibility per Mid-Pacific, ILH, and HHSAA regulations.
  • Maintain and secure all equipment; report any broken or unsafe items to the Athletic Department.
  • Assist with issuing and returning team uniforms and equipment.
  • Monitor academic performance to support student success.
  • Communicate team equipment and supply needs to the Athletic Department.
COMMUNICATION
  • Clearly articulate the vision and scope of the Sideline Cheer program.
  • Conduct a parent meeting prior to the start of the season.
  • Share practice schedules and updates with athletes in a timely and organized manner.
  • Respond positively and promptly to parent or athlete concerns.
LEADERSHIP
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes.
  • Demonstrate and promote good sportsmanship.
  • Attend all required meetings and events scheduled by the Athletic Department.
  • Be mindful of student-athletes’ social and emotional needs.
  • Comply with all Mid-Pacific, ILH, IJF and HHSAA rules and regulations.
  • Recruit, train, and oversee all coaches in the Sideline Cheer program, in collaboration with the Athletic Director.
SAFETY
  • Supervise the practice and competition environments to maintain safety.
  • Identify and address hazards or unsafe behaviors.
  • Report injuries promptly to the Athletic Trainer.
  • Follow the Mid-Pacific Athletics Emergency Action Plan during emergencies.

Regular and predictable attendance at work is essential.

SCHOOL SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Comply with the instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others, in adhering to safe work procedures.
  • Take reasonable care to ensure their own safety and health and that of others.
  • Report any injury, hazard or illness immediately, to the Athletic Department.
  • Not place others at risk by any act or omission, not willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipment.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors.
  • Identify, assess if necessary, and control hazards within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that equipment/supplies are properly maintained.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws.
  • Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources. Sexual abuse includes child molestation, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with a minor, and serial sexual misconduct, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with more than one victim; and committed by or alleged to have been committed by any perpetrator who is not a student of an included entity.

WORK SCHEDULE

This is an in-person, on-call position requiring fewer than 20 hours per week during the Sideline Cheer seasons.

OTHER SKILLS

A qualified person will possess the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with the Athletic Department, coaching staff, maintenance staff, faculty/staff, student-athletes, parents, and other members of the Mid-Pacific athletic community. This communication will include a combination of phone calls, text messages, emails, letters, and face-to-face conversations. The person must be well organized, able to meet deadlines, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Additionally, the person will be a positive role model in our community and possess the highest level of sportsman-like behavior at all times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, squat, kneel, twist, push, pull, and use hands and arms while coaching and supervising student-athletes during practices, games, and performances.

The employee must possess sufficient near and distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, hearing, and communication skills to supervise student-athletes, recognize potential safety hazards, provide instruction, and respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

MENTAL DEMANDS

On a daily basis, must consistently problem-solve, make informed decisions, interpret data, organize effectively, communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, and engage in thoughtful planning.

EQUIPMENT USE

Uses equipment typical of a sideline cheer program, including pom-poms, first aid and emergency response equipment, and other coaching and training aids. Utilizes computers, tablets, email, Google Workspace applications, and other technology for communication, scheduling, recordkeeping, and program administration. May operate School vehicles to transport equipment or travel to athletic events, if authorized.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoor - frequently.

Outdoor, loud noise, cold and hot temperatures - occasionally.
