Job summary

Central Rock Gym in Watertown, MA is seeking a Head Coach to lead its competitive youth climbing program. You will foster a fun, challenging, growth-oriented environment for young athletes while reinforcing the team pillars of community, grit, and growth.

The Head Coach will develop structured training plans, mentor staff, prepare athletes for competition, and work with management to ensure high coaching standards and a safe, engaging youth experience across events and national qualifiers.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of climbing experience.
• Proficiency in lead climbing and belaying.
• Strong behavior management and mentorship skills.
• Ability to coach youth athletes of varying ages and abilities.
• Excellent in-person and remote communication with athletes, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead competitive team practices with confidence and professionalism.
• Develop seasonal and weekly training plans for athletes.
• Coach across climbing disciplines focusing on technique, movement, strength, strategy, and long-term development.
• Evaluate progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Assist with athlete evaluations, team placement, and goal setting.
• Prepare athletes for local, regional and national competitions.
• Attend competitions to support CRG athletes.
• Maintain knowledge of USA Climbing formats and rules.
• Foster a positive, inclusive team culture and mentorship for staff.
• Ensure consistent coaching standards and communication with management.
