Job summary

Qualifications

  • Middle/high school coaching experience preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of USGA rules, swing mechanics, course management, match formats, scoring software, and mental conditioning for golf.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and run structured practices to develop golf skills and strategy.
  • Coordinate with local courses to host matches and practice times.
  • Develop youth and feeder programs for ongoing participation.
  • Schedule matches and tournaments with the Activities Director to support player development.
  • Ensure athlete safety during practices, matches, and travel.
  • Uphold sportsmanship, ethics, and adherence to conference guidelines.

Boys Head Golf Coach – Varsity

Position Overview

The Head Boys Golf Coach provides strategic leadership, instruction, and overall program direction to student-athletes and assistant coaching staff. Reporting directly to the Activities Director, the Head Coach defines program objectives and ensures alignment with St. Francis High School athletic standards. The position is directly responsible for prioritizing the health, safety, and holistic development of all participating student-athletes.

Qualifications & Preferred Experience
  • Background: Prior middle or high school golf coaching experience preferred; high-level competitive playing experience will also be strongly considered.
  • Certifications & Requirements: Valid Minnesota coaching certificate or completion of the MSHSL / National Federation Interscholastic Coaches Education Program. Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification and completion of required MSHSL safety modules.
  • Subject Expertise: Extensive, practical knowledge of USGA rules, swing mechanics, course management, match formats, scoring software, and mental conditioning for golf.

Major Responsibilities
  • Program Management & Instruction: Plan, organize, and execute structured practices, driving range sessions, and course play to develop core golf skills, strategy, and conference competitiveness. Oversee team selection and player evaluations.
  • Golf Course Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with local host courses and golf pros to schedule practice tee times, secure driving range access, and host home matches while ensuring team adherence to all course etiquette and property rules.
  • Youth & Feeder Development: Partner with coaches and local youth golf initiatives to foster a continuous pipeline of athlete participation and skill development.
  • Scheduling & Collaboration: Work alongside the Activities Director to construct an effective match/tournament schedule that enhances player development and prepares the program for postseason competition.
  • Safety & Oversight: Ensure the well-being and safety of athletes during practices, matches, transport, weather delays, and while utilizing host golf course facilities.
  • Culture & Sportsmanship: Exemplify and enforce high standards of golf etiquette, sportsmanship, and integrity, adhering strictly to the Coaches Code of Ethics and conference guidelines.
  • Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with all St. Francis Area Schools policies and MSHSL regulations regarding season parameters, eligibility checks, and out-of-season contact rules.
  • Operations & Administration: Manage uniform, equipment, and apparel inventory (distribution, tracking, and collection), oversee team travel logistics, manage budget requests, complete end-of-season administrative reports, and coordinate postseason recognition events.
  • Community Representation: Serve as a positive ambassador for St. Francis High School; fulfill other duties as assigned by the Activities Director.
