Murray’s Cheese in New York, NY is seeking a Head Cheesemonger to join our retail team. This role blends customer service, inventory management, food preparation, and staff leadership in a fast-paced environment.

You will educate customers on cheeses and charcuterie, manage stock and pricing, supervise team members, and support events and tastings. Weekend availability and NYC Food Handler’s Certification or ServSafe are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and time-management skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
• Proficiency in basic computer skills (register systems, inventory management).
• Previous experience in retail, customer service, or the food industry, with a preference for experience in cheese or specialty foods.
• Certifications: NYC Food Handler’s Certification or ServSafe preferred (not required).

Responsibilities

• Assist customers with product selection, samples, and expert knowledge on cheeses and specialty foods.
• Cut, wrap, and weigh products to customer specifications.
• Guide customers through cheese and charcuterie selection, creating an engaging experience.
• Build relationships and promote new products, seasonal offerings, and pairings.
• Handle inquiries, resolve issues, and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Receive and organize product deliveries; maintain stock and quality checks.
• Maintain inventory levels, price labeling, and visual merchandising.
• Ensure food safety and cleanliness in shop and prep areas.
• Prepare cheese and snack trays, and assist with events and tastings.
