Job summary

Asbury University invites applications for Cheerleading – Head Coach, a part-time stipend position. You will lead and develop the cheer program, recruit and mentor student athletes, and ensure safety and excellence in performances.

The role requires 3–5 years of coaching experience and a committed Christian faith aligned with the university's mission. Travel and evening/weekend duties are expected according to practice and game schedules.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years minimum related coaching experience.
• A committed and dynamic Christian faith is vital along with the ability to support the University’s theological position, lifestyle standards and mission.

Responsibilities

• Instruct student athletes in cheerleading including teaching theory, techniques, and strategies of the team.
• Instructing student athletes in preparing their minds and bodies for optimum performance of the team including personal nutrition, physical fitness and overall physical, mental and spiritual health.
• Selection of team through a tryout process.
• Ensure that all Cheerleading team members understand the commitment that a team member must make if selected to be a member of the Asbury University team.
• Monitor the academic success of all team members.
• Exercise reasonable judgment in the stunts that team members are expected to perform.
• Enforce team member use of all appropriate safety equipment such as spotting belts, spotting harnesses, crash pads, etc., when learning new stunts and ensure continued use until both the student and coach feels confident that the student can perform the stunt.
• General administrative duties related to team functioning including: Ensuring all equipment is properly stored, and the building is secure after all practices.
• Picking up and returning vans before and after performances.
• Loading and unloading team equipment for performances.
• Ensure student drivers have filled out the necessary paperwork to be approved as drivers (juniors and seniors only).
• Ensure availability of a first aid kit at each practice and performance and that check to see that it has the necessary supplies.
• Inspect all equipment to ensure each piece is in safe, usable condition.
• Other duties as assigned
