Peak Utility Infrastructure in Colorado is seeking an Operator II - HDD to set up and complete directional drilling, pull conduit, and work with crews on outside plant projects from start to finish.

Ideal candidates have 1+ year HDD experience, hold CDL Class A with airbrake endorsement, can pass background checks and a drug screen, and are able to work in varied weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of Horizontal Directional Drilling experience.
  • Strong knowledge of underground utilities and DOT regulations.
  • Valid CDL Class A license with airbrake endorsement required.
  • Pass criminal and MVR background checks and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather and in safety-conscious environments.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Horizontal Directional Drill to bore paths and pull back conduit.
  • Assist potholing, setting hand holes, and tie-ins as needed.
  • Drive equipment to job site and set up drill and supporting gear.
  • Communicate bore path details with locator/lead via radio.
  • Oversee laborers, monitor time usage, and perform post-job quality checks.
  • Maintain vehicle/equipment, perform pre/post trip inspections, and winterize as needed.

Position Title:Operator II - HDD

Pay Rate: $30.00 - $36.00 per hour DOE

Essential Functions:

The Directional Drilling Operator will be primarily responsible for setup and completion of drilling variable sized underground holes and pulling back required conduit. Drilling Operator will work with the Outside Plant Supervisor, the Locator and the Laborers to complete job requirements from start to finish on outside plant projects including digging boring pit, directional boring, pulling back of conduit, splicing of conduit sections, pulling fiber through conduit, setting hand holes, backfilling and seeding, core drilling and pot holing, building penetrations and close out pictures and redlines.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Operate Horizontal Directional Drill
  • Assist in potholing and remediation
  • Assist with setting hand holes and completing tie ins
  • Drive equipment to job site
  • Confirms with locator/lead the bore path to drill
  • Set equipment up including the drill, water tanks and grounding the machine
  • Drill out following the predetermined drill path to the exit pit
  • Communicate with the locator/lead via radio to confirm the location of the drill head
  • Assist with the install of proper pulling gear and hook up product
  • Reverse process to install product
  • Oversee laborers and/or crew member's work and monitor time usage
  • Conduct post-job quality checks
  • Clean, check fluid levels and conduct a visual inspection of vehicle/equipment to assure your vehicle/equipment is performing at optimum safety, perform the required pre-trip, post trip inspections and the required paperwork, perform needed maintenance including winterizing equipment.
  • Communicates with Supervisor daily to turn in required paperwork (i.e. Bore log, vehicle maintenance reports, etc.)
  • Follows specifications for the job and company policies

Success Factors:

  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift
  • Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers
  • Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
  • English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional skills

Experience and Education:

  • 1+ years of demonstrated Horizontal Directional Drilling experience
  • Strong knowledge of underground utilities
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations (Vehicle and Operator Qualifications)
  • Understanding of client and company work specifications
  • Ability to comply with the "Operator's Manual" for your equipment
  • Ability to read and comprehend and follow all quality/safety policies and procedures
  • Self-motivated, safety, quality and production minded
  • Maintain valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class A, with airbrake endorsement)
  • Ability to work in all types of weather
  • Knowledge of underground pot holing preferred
  • Self-motivated, safety, quality and production minded
  • Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
  • Possession of Residence Driver's License is required.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
