Job summary

SA Recycling LLC in Los Angeles, CA seeks a Heavy Duty Mechanic to diagnose, repair and maintain large vehicles and equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems using hand tools and diagnostic gear.

Responsibilities include reading work orders, planning repairs, diagnosing diesel engines, inspecting suspensions, transmissions, brakes and related components, test driving, oil changes and keeping service records. On-site role emphasizing safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• 2 years experience on all types of construction equipment if progressing from Bargaining Unit
• Must have 3 years experience if hired from outside labor grade
• Good general working knowledge of Diesel Engine, Auto Electric, Transmission, Hydraulics, Power Train
• Ability to work alone or with an “A” or “B” mechanic
• Must learn to use, service, parts and technical manuals
• Required tools shall be a complete set of standard tools; company provides specialized tools

Job description

SA Recycling is in need for a Heavy Duty Mechanic to diagnose, repair and maintain large vehicles and equipment. This position involves fixing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems using hand tools and specialized diagnostic equipment to ensure the machinery operates safely and efficiently.

Team members will be responsible for:

• Consulting the end user/driver and reading work orders to evaluate the tasks required;
• Preparing work plans after fully scoping out the issues;
• Running diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpreting the results to offer suitable solutions;
• Inspecting vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering and exhausts;
• Repairing or replacing vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines, and other associated parts;
• Test driving repaired vehicles to gauge their performance;
• Completing oil changes, wheel balancing, alignment, and brake checks;
• Maintaining records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles.

Requirements under the CBA – SA Recycling, LLC Terminal Island

If progressing from the Bargaining Unit must have 2 years experience on all types of construction

equipment. Must have 3 years experience if hired into this labor grade from the outside.

Required tools shall be a complete set of standard tools as follows:

The Company shall provide specialized tools not listed.

This individual will need assistance and supervision with the disassembling, inspection and identifying of worn failed components.

He is expected to continue with education and reading technical update manuals and also by taking refresher training courses given by manufacturing dealerships consistent with this program and labor grades. Company shall send bargaining unit employees to school. The parties shall identify courses and manuals such courses shall be at the Company’s expense.

Equipment & Tools: Yard equipment, electrical Safety equipment, hand tools, and PPE specialized for electricians.
