Job summary

Holy Cross Health is seeking a Part-time Physician Assistant I (PA-1) to serve as an operative first assistant across multiple service lines, including DaVinci robotics, general, orthopedic, gynecologic, vascular and urology. The PA-1 conducts post-operative assessments and coordinates care under supervision.

• Graduate from an ARC-PA certified PA program.
• Passed the PANCE.
• Must maintain current Maryland PA licensure.
• Must qualify for prescriptive authority (CDS/DEA).
• Ability to work in operating room and inpatient units.
• Maintain BLS Certification.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Team-oriented and collaborative.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the operating room as first assistant for DaVinci robotics and multiple service lines.
• Perform daily postoperative rounding and coordinate patient care under supervising physician.
• Document admission H&P, daily progress notes, orders, discharges and transfer summaries.
• Evaluate patients in ED and on surgical floor as requested by the physician.
• Assist with bedside procedures: central venous catheter, tube thoracostomy, arterial catheter, and PICC.
• Support quality initiatives, electronic documentation, and compliant billing.
• Develop laparoscopic and DaVinci robotic first assist skills.

Employment Type: Part time Shift: Rotating Shift Description: The Physician Assistant I (PA-1) functions as an operative first assistant for multiple service lines including but not limited to Davinci robotics, general surgery, orthopedic, gynecological, vascular and urology and completes post-operative assessments and management of post operative surgical patients. The PA-1 makes an assessment based on history and physical, orders ancillary tests and treatment modalities as deemed appropriate, and integrates all data in determining a diagnosis and initiating a treatment plan, with approval of the supervising physician and attending physician. The PA-I works in a team structure and communicates with all hospital departments pertinent patient findings to facilitate a collaborative management of patient care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides Surgical assistance in the operating room upon request to any surgeon with a delegation agreement and as assigned by the Clinical coordinator of APPs/designee.

Develops laparoscopic and DaVinci robotic first assist skills.

Performs daily post-operative rounding and facilitate/coordinate care of the patient as requested by the supervising physician.

Responsible for admission History and Physical examinations, daily progress notes, daily orders, discharge, transfer and death summaries, discharge/transfer orders and prescriptions for all patients admitted to them by the attending surgeon.

Conducts evaluations of patients in the Emergency Department and on the surgical floor at the request of the attending surgeon.

Assists credentialed practitioners of bedside procedures including central venous catheter placement, tube thoracostomy, arterial catheter placement and peripherally inserted central catheters.

Supports Quality initiatives of Holy Cross Hospital including medication reconciliation, universal time out procedures, SCIP, VTE prevention, and electronic documentation.

Supports timely, accurate and compliant professional billing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate from a PA program that is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for Physician Assistants (ARC-PA).
• Passed the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE).
• Must maintain current licensing as Physician Assistant in the State of Maryland.
• Must qualify for prescriptive authority (Controlled Drug Substance [CDS] and Drug Enforcement Agency [DEA]).
• Must have the ability to work in both the operating room and inpatient units
• Must maintain BLS Certification.
• Must possess excellent communication skills.
• Must function well in a team environment.
