Job summary

Holy Cross Health in Silver Spring, MD, seeks a Physician Assistant I to function as operative first assistant across multiple service lines, including DaVinci robotics. The PA-1 will evaluate patients based on history and physical, order tests, and develop treatment plans with supervising physicians, working within a collaborative team across hospital departments.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an ARC-PA certified PA program.
• Passed the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE).
• Must maintain current licensing as Physician Assistant in the State of Maryland.
• Must qualify for prescriptive authority (CDS/DEA).
• Ability to work in both the operating room and inpatient units.
• Must have BLS Certification.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide Surgical assistance in the operating room upon request to any surgeon with a delegation agreement and as assigned by the Clinical coordinator of APPs/designee.
• Develop laparoscopic and DaVinci robotic first assist skills.
• Perform daily post-operative rounding and coordinate care of the patient as requested by the supervising physician.
• Admission History and Physical examinations, daily progress notes, orders, discharge summaries, and prescriptions for all patients admitted by the attending surgeon.
• Evaluate patients in the Emergency Department and on the surgical floor as requested by the attending surgeon.
• Assist credentialed practitioners with bedside procedures (central venous catheter placement, tube thoracostomy, arterial catheter placement, and PICC lines).
• Support Quality initiatives and accurate, compliant professional billing.

Employment Type:Full timeShift:Description: The Physician Assistant I (PA-1) functions as an operative first assistant for multiple service lines including but not limited to Davinci robotics, general surgery, orthopedic, gynecological, vascular and urology and completes post-operative assessments and management of post operative surgical patients. The PA-1 makes an assessment based on history and physical, orders ancillary tests and treatment modalities as deemed appropriate, and integrates all data in determining a diagnosis and initiating a treatment plan, with approval of the supervising physician and attending physician. The PA-I works in a team structure and communicates with all hospital departments pertinent patient findings to facilitate a collaborative management of patient care

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Conducts evaluations of patients in the Emergency Department and on the surgical floor at the request of the attending surgeon.
• Assists credentialed practitioners of bedside procedures including central venous catheter placement, tube thoracostomy, arterial catheter placement and peripherally inserted central catheters.
• Supports Quality initiatives of Holy Cross Hospital including medication reconciliation, universal time out procedures, SCIP, VTE prevention, and electronic documentation.
• Supports timely, accurate and compliant professional billing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate from a PA program that is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for Physician Assistants (ARC-PA).
• Passed the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE).
• Must maintain current licensing as Physician Assistant in the State of Maryland.
• Must qualify for prescriptive authority (Controlled Drug Substance [CDS] and Drug Enforcement Agency [DEA]).
• Must have the ability to work in both the operating room and inpatient units
• Must maintain BLS Certification.

• Must possess excellent communication skills.
• Must function well in a team environment.
