Purpose: The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care to hospitalized patients by reviewing medication orders, preparing and dispensing medications, monitoring drug therapies, and collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The Staff Pharmacist ensures safe, effective, and evidence-based medication use while maintaining compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

What you will do:
Clinical Pharmacy Services
  • Review and verify physician medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, and potential drug interactions.
  • Monitor patient medication therapy and recommend adjustments based on clinical condition, laboratory values, and treatment goals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary patient care rounds when applicable.
  • Provide drug information and therapeutic recommendations to physicians, nurses, patients, and caregivers.
  • Assess adverse drug reactions and medication-related issues and implement corrective actions.
Medication Dispensing and Distribution
  • Accurately prepare, compound, and dispense medications in accordance with federal, state, and hospital regulations.
  • Verify medication doses, formulations, and routes of administration before dispensing.
  • Oversee medication distribution systems, including automated dispensing cabinets and unit-dose delivery systems.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and inventory control of medications.
Medication Safety and Compliance
  • Promote medication safety initiatives and participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Report, investigate, and document medication errors and adverse drug events.
  • Maintain compliance with Joint Commission, state board of pharmacy, DEA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with controlled substance management and recordkeeping.
Patient Education
  • Counsel patients and families regarding medication therapies, potential side effects, and proper medication use.
  • Provide discharge medication education and support transitions of care.
  • Promote medication adherence and understanding of treatment plans.
Operational Responsibilities
  • Supervise and provide guidance to pharmacy technicians and pharmacy interns.
  • Assist with departmental workflow and staffing needs.
  • Participate in pharmacy committees, policy development, and departmental projects.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of pharmacy interventions and clinical activities.
Required Qualifications
