Job summary

Bronson Healthcare Group is seeking an HCC Risk Professional Coder to join our team in a full-time capacity. The role focuses on detailed review of provider documentation to validate coding for surgically complex cases and to support billing and authorization processes.

You will work with physicians to justify code selections, maintain tracking spreadsheets, and run routine reports. Strong medical terminology, coding knowledge, and an ability to work independently are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 12–18 months coding experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Coding credential (AAPC/AHIMA) required within 12 months of hire.
• Working knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding with emphasis in area of specialty.
• Strong medical terminology.
• Excellent communication skills and positive customer relations.
• Ability to work independently and demonstrate effective problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Review provider documentation/dictation for validation of codes in surgically complex cases (e.g., Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic).
• Research code selection.
• Review work queues and post charges into the Practice Management System for hospital and office billing, validating documentation and dates of service.
• Provide codes for surgical cases for insurance authorization.
• Run reports (e.g., Charge Summary) for physician review and CBO.
• Maintain spreadsheets tracking authorizations and surgical procedures.
• Communicate rationale for selected codes with physicians.
• Relay messages to providers.
• Perform general clerical duties and complete required forms or letters.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform detailed review of provider documentation/dictation for validation of appropriate codes selected for surgically complex cases (e.g., Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery).
• Perform research on code selection.
• Review work queues and/or post charges into Practice Management System for provider hospital and office billing, and complex surgery cases, validating documentation with correct dates of service and confirming selection of appropriate billing codes.
• Provide codes for surgical cases for insurance authorization.
• Run reports (e.g., Charge Summary) as necessary for physician review and CBO.
• Maintain necessary spreadsheets tracking authorizations and surgical case/procedures.
• Communicate in a positive persuasive manner with physician on rationale for selected codes.
• Relays messages to providers.
• Perform general clerical duties including internal/external correspondence and answering telephones.
• Completes required forms or letters as necessary.
• Performs other duties as may be assigned.

The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weight objects.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• 12-18 months coding experience in a health care setting preferred.
• As of 5/22/2026, Certified Coding Credential required through the AAPC or AHIUMA (CPC, COC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT, etc.) required within 12 months of hire.
• Must have working knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding with emphasis on area of specialty working in.
• Strong medical terminology.
• Ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheet, presentation programs, databases, and other software relevant to the job.
• Requires excellent communication skills and positive customer relations orientation.
• Must be able to work independently and demonstrate effective problem-solving.

Work which produces very high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g. CRT work between 70 and 90 percent of the time, and work involving extremely close tolerances and considerable hand/eye coordination for sustained periods of time.

Shift: First. Type: Full time. Scheduled weekly hours: 40.
