Job summary

Richland County Government is seeking a senior coordinator to lead the HazMat Division and WMD/Emergency Operations Team. The role focuses on planning, coordinating, and supervising HazMat responses and CBRNE programs, ensuring compliance with policies and safety standards.

The position also oversees training, multi-agency responses, investigations, and grant management, with responsibilities extending to program development and public safety education.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field with five years of relevant experience.
• HazMat and CBRNE response certifications listed are required or will be pursued.
• Valid state driver’s license and ICS/Field Chemistry expertise are required.

Responsibilities

• Manages the Hazardous Materials Division and hazardous materials responses.
• Plans, coordinates, and manages CBRNE and hazardous materials programs compliant with laws and safety standards.
• Develops and maintains CBRNE and HazMat emergency response plans and procedures.
• Oversees HazMat/WMD training for internal staff and partner agencies; conducts training and assessments.
• Coordinates resources to prepare for, mitigate, respond to, and recover from incidents.
• Provides supervision of EOT/COBRA and HazMat team during responses; assists investigations and prosecutions.
• Manages HazMat permitting and conducts inspections of related businesses.
• Secures grant funding and maintains training, response, and certification records.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in public safety, criminal justice, public administration, hazardous materials response/management, code enforcement, or a closely related field
