Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) invites applications for a Hazards Analyst within the Security & Emergency Services Division. You will support emergency management, safeguards & security, and fire protection programs, applying engineering, atmospheric science, chemistry, and toxicology principles to assess hazards.

You will work with DOE orders, perform dispersion and GIS analyses, and collaborate with emergency planners and researchers to ensure lab safety and preparedness,

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant Hazards Analyst experience or a BS in engineering or applied science, or an equivalent combination.
• Understanding of basic chemical and physical properties of hazardous materials.
• Ability to review, interpret, and apply requirements.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Translate and implement requirements to support technical reports, programmatic plans, and analytical deliverables.
• Identify natural, technological, and human-caused hazards and characterize potential impacts.
• Screen and assess hazardous material inventories against DOE requirements.
• Support security asset identification and characterization for security planning documents.
• Apply dispersion modeling to analyze consequences of hazardous material releases.
• Use GIS, wildfire spread modeling, explosion modeling, and other software for hazards assessment and response.
• Collaborate with emergency planners, engineers, security professionals, and researchers.
• Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization with on-duty/on-call rotation.
