Job summary

WM is seeking an Operations Manager for the hazardous waste disposal facility in Hood River, Oregon. You will ensure 24/7 operations, safety, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective performance while leading a team and coordinating emergency response.

You will monitor waste turnover, manage inventory, participate in budgeting, and maintain community relationships, reporting to site leadership. This on-site role requires strong safety culture and hands-on leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree (accredited) or in lieu of degree.
• High School Diploma or GED and 4 years of relevant work experience.
• 7 years of relevant work experience.

Responsibilities

• Ensures smooth 24 hour, 7 day per week operation of the hazardous waste disposal facility.
• Minimizes operational costs while maximizing productivity and maintaining safety and environmental compliance.
• Continually works to reduce turnaround time for trucks in and out of site.
• Accurately tracks waste volume and weight.
• Acts as a liaison for community relationships as needed.
• Monitors ongoing permitting issues.
• Coordinate emergency response operations as Emergency Coordinator in case of an incident or spill.
• Complies with WM’s Mission to Zero standards and regulations.
• Manage all purchased materials inventory to ensure adequate supplies.
• Oversees personnel needs including hiring, coaching, training and evaluating staff.
• Assists in the budget process.
• Ensures facility cleanliness and maintenance through inspections and preventive maintenance.
• Conducts safety meetings and provides training and presentations as needed.
• Updates and submits required reports in a timely manner.
