Job summary

The State of Connecticut, Department of Correction, seeks a Correctional Plumber and Steamfitter at Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers. The role includes maintaining plumbing and steam systems, supervising inmates, and ensuring health and safety in a correctional setting.

The position is full-time, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, with mandatory 14-week hazardous-duty training in Cheshire. Experience of three years in plumbing/steamfitting is required; licensure is not necessary.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience as a plumber and/or steamfitter.
• Graduation from a vocational or technical school may substitute one year of general experience.
• Special experience: one year at a highly skilled level may be required for some roles.

Responsibilities

• Plan, lay out and schedule maintenance assignments.
• Instruct inmates in techniques of plumbing and steamfitting; read blueprints and drawings.
• Troubleshoot and repair plumbing and steamfitting systems; maintain records and reports.
