Job summary

The Kohala Center is seeking a Hawai‘i native plant specialist to lead germination, propagation, and outplanting at Keawewai. You will conduct field research, manage native plant nursery activities, and contribute to community education and stewardship efforts on Kohala Mountain.

Ideal candidates have five years of native plant experience and strong collaboration with Kawaihae and Kohala communities. The role requires fieldwork, data collection, and irrigation system upkeep in a remote, outdoor

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years of experience in agriculture, forestry, natural resource, or conservation-related field.
• Minimum of five years of experience germinating and growing native plants from seed.
• Demonstrated experience studying under Hawai‘i native plant expertise.
• Working knowledge of nursery operation, maintenance, and repair.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Outstanding sense of workplace responsibility to ensure safety of staff and learners.
• Basic proficiency in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi.

Responsibilities

• Ho‘olauna: build relationships with teachers, trees, and communities to support wellbeing.
• Kilo: conduct field research and data collection for native reforestation efforts.
• Mo‘olelo: support learning evaluations and community education programs.
