Job summary

Haleakala National Park in Makawao, HI, is seeking personnel to work in the park nursery, propagate native plants, and help control invasive species under NPS guidance. Local candidates are preferred; knowledge of Native Hawaiian plants is a plus.

The 40-hour week runs Oct 26, 2026 to Apr 9, 2027, with housing options depending on availability. Work includes outdoor duties at high altitude (6,000–10,000 ft), hiking in backcountry, and seasonal duties supporting restoration projects.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be physically fit and able to work in challenging outdoor conditions.
• Much of the work is at an altitude of 6,000–10,000 ft.

Responsibilities

• Help in the Park nursery, propagating and transplanting native plants for restoration.
• Control alien plant invasions using mechanical and chemical means.
• Hike and camp in remote backcountry locations Monday through Friday.
• Monitor native plant species in the field.
