Job summary

Prestage Farms is seeking a Hatchery Sanitation and Transfer Technician to assist in cleaning and sterilizing machinery used to process or store eggs, poults, and related hatchery items. You will perform sanitation duties, validate cleaning processes, and assist other departments as needed.

The role includes transferring eggs and poults through incubators and hatcheries, ensuring proper placement and handling, and preparing poults for delivery to farms.

• Must shower before entering the facility and wear a company uniform.

Responsibilities

• Sanitation: Turn valves to drain machines or tanks and disconnect pipes.
• Sanitation: Spray machines, incubators, and conveyors with water to loosen dirt and lubricate machinery.
• Sanitation: Scrub machines, tanks, tables, pans, conveyors; rinse and dry with compressed air.
• Sanitation: Scrub floors and walls; mix cleaning solutions and acids.
• Sanitation: Connect hoses and run cleaning/sterilizing solution.
• Sanitation: Draw samples of cleaning solutions for lab analysis.
• Sanitation: Replace defective sections of metal coils and lines.
• Assist other departments as needed.
• Transfer: Place eggs in incubator trays and clip trays to racks.
• Transfer: Move trays from incubator to hatchery; remove paper wads.
• Transfer: Move hatched poults to poult boxes and count per box.
• Transfer: Supply baby chicks to workers for sexing, trimming, debeaking.
• Prepare poults for delivery to farms or growing establishments.
• ADA requirements: read and comprehend, lift up to 100 pounds, regular walking, etc.

Prestage Farms is seeking a Hatchery Sanitation and Transfer Technician to assist in the cleaning and sterilizing of machinery and equipment used to process or store eggs, poults, and other related items in the hatchery. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Responsibilities

Sanitation

• Turn valves to drain machines or tanks and disconnect pipes

• Spray machines, incubators, and conveyors with water to loosen and remove dirt or other foreign matter; lubricate machinery
• Scrub machines, tanks, tables, pans, bowls, compartments, and conveyors; rinse articles with water and dry them with compressed air
• Scrub floors and walls; mix cleaning solutions and diluted acids
• Connect hoses and lines to pump; start pump to circulate cleaning and sterilizing solution through hoses and lines
• Draw off samples of cleaning solutions from mixing tanks for laboratory analysis
• Replace defective sections of metal coils and lines
• Assist other departments as needed

Transfer

• Place eggs in incubator trays, wad paper between eggs to secure them, and clip trays to incubator racks
• Transfer trays from incubator to hatchery and remove paper wads from between eggs to make room for hatching poults
• Transfer hatched poults from trays to poult boxes and count out prescribed number of poults to each box section
• Supply baby chicks to other workers for sexing, trimming, and debeaking
• Prepare poults for delivery to designated farms or commercial growing establishments

ADA Requirements

• Work with and around disinfectant type chemicals and moving mechanical parts
• Perform constant walking, lifting, and bending
• Use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
