Job summary

Jefferson County Public Health in Colorado is seeking a Harm Reduction Specialist to administer non-clinical testing and resources for participants at risk of HIV, Hepatitis C, and other STIs. You will promote low-barrier, trauma-informed harm reduction services, including syringe services, education, street outreach, and resource navigation.

Ideal candidates bring a commitment to public health, experience with diverse communities, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience: 2 years of related work or volunteer experience.
• Preferred: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in arts/science.
• Spanish speaking is highly preferred.
• Lived or living experience with drug use is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct service using harm reduction to syringe service participants.
• Conduct HIV/HCV/STI counseling using motivational interviewing.
• Administer testing for HIV/HCV/STIs at fixed sites and outreach locations.
• Provide counseling and referrals to care or prevention services.
• Educate on overdose prevention and distribute naloxone.
• Participate in street outreach to meet people experiencing homelessness where they are.
