Job summary

Parallel Systems in Los Angeles seeks a Hardware Test Engineer to validate autonomous rail vehicle performance and subsystems. You will work with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to derive test requirements and build test infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hardware development or electronics test engineering experience.
• Proficiency interpreting electronics schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Experience with software development in Python, C, C++, Rust or similar language.
• BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering or similar discipline.
• Experience with optics calibration and testing, and with power electronics testing.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain test solutions for in-house electronics components and systems.
• Build and maintain test benches for development and regression testing.
• Define and develop test cases using Python.
• Produce documentation for testing including test plans and test reports.
• Support testing and data analysis to identify root causes.

Job description

• As a Hardware Test Engineer, you will be responsible for validating the performance of our autonomous rail vehicles and subsystems
• You will work closely with other engineers (including electrical, mechanical, and software) to derive test requirements and develop the corresponding test infrastructure and processes
• You are passionate about autonomous vehicle development and will bring that enthusiasm to solving challenging problems in pursuit of a reliable and scalable testing ecosystem
• As an early employee at a fast-moving startup, you will work on a multitude of technical projects and help shape the direction of the company
• Design and maintain test solutions for in-house developed electronics components and systems
• Build and maintain test benches used for development and software regression testing
• Define and develop test cases using Python
• Produce documentation for testing including test plans, work instructions, design drawings, and test reports
• Support testing and data analysis to identify and root-cause issues
• Test vehicles at Parallel test facilities and customer sites
• Mentor other engineers and contribute to the team’s technical growth
• After 30 Days: You’re familiar with vehicle and subsystems, including functional requirements and testing. You’ve produced design drawings for a test bench and procured parts
• After 60 Days: You’ve integrated a test bench and demonstrated functionality and ability to meet test needs
• After 90 days: You’ve automated test bench operations and integrated into software regression testing. You’re supporting ongoing testing and driving an outcome tied directly to a business objective as a trusted partner

Experience using common test equipment such as power supplies, DAQs, DMMs, and oscilloscopesProficient in interpreting electronics schematics and wiring diagrams3+ years of experience with hardware development or electronics test engineeringExperience with software development, in Python, C, C++, Rust or similar languageBS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar disciplineExperience with optics calibration and testingExperience with soldering, crimping and use of other hand tools for electronics integration and repairExperience in power electronics testing including power converters, battery chargers, and motor controllersExperience with environmental testing, e.g., MIL-STD-810, IEC 60068Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing or hardware validation/acceptance testingMaster’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a similar Engineering discipline5+ years of experience with hardware development or electronics test engineering
