Gradient seeks a Systems Engineer to design, run and document tests for our heat pump products in the San Francisco lab. You will evaluate firmware features, hardware changes, and supplier components, reporting whether design requirements are met.

The role combines hands‑on testing with coordinating external labs and partners. Responsibilities include translating requirements into test plans, instrumenting systems with sensors, analyzing data, and maintaining traceability across engineering

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering or related field.
• 0–2 years hardware testing or related hands‑on experience.
• Experience with LabVIEW for test execution or data acquisition.
• Hands‑on experience building, testing, instrumenting, debugging, or analyzing physical systems.
• Experience collecting data using sensors, DAQ tools, or multimeters.
• Systematic approach: from requirements to testing and conclusions.
• Clear communication of findings to technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Collaborating across different technical backgrounds.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn unfamiliar areas.
• Initiative and ownership shown in academics, internships or projects.
• Organized and detail‑oriented; able to manage multiple projects onsite.
• Onsite SF work with occasional travel; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsabilités

• Translate requirements into test plans with clear pass/fail criteria.
• Set up and run tests in the lab with sensors and data acquisition.
• Analyze data and write concise reports with evidence and next steps.
• Validate firmware features, hardware changes and supplier components.
• Review supplier changes and impacts on performance and safety.
• Coordinate third‑party testing from scope to completion.
• Maintain traceability among requirements, tests, and parts.
• Document work in Confluence, Jira, and Arena.
• Help build and maintain test fixtures and lab equipment.
• Grow across engineering disciplines and take broader ownership.
