We are seeking a Senior Thermal Test Engineer to drive automation and data analysis across thermal validation testing for high-power electronics and datacenter cooling systems. This role is focused on building robust, repeatable test automation pipelines and turning raw test data into actionable engineering insight — working closely with thermal simulation, mechanical design, and product engineering teams to ensure our cooling solutions meet performance, reliability, and efficiency targets.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain test automation frameworks and data acquisition pipelines (Python preferred) that reduce manual effort and increase test throughput and repeatability
- Develop scripts/tools to automatically control instrumentation (thermocouples, RTDs, pressure transducers, flow meters, thermal imaging), log data, and flag anomalies in real time
- Perform statistical analysis of thermal test data using JMP (DOE, variability analysis, correlation, control charts) to identify trends, outliers, and root causes of thermal performance issues
- Build dashboards and automated reporting in Power BI to communicate test results and KPIs to engineering and leadership
- Collaborate with thermal simulation engineers to correlate automated test data against CFD/thermal simulation results (Icepak, Fluent, or similar), helping validate and refine simulation models
- Design thermal test plans and specify instrumentation/DAQ requirements for new test setups, in support of characterizing component and system-level thermal performance against specs (e.g., OCP cold plate specs, ASHRAE guidelines)
- Support failure analysis and reliability testing (thermal cycling, stress testing, accelerated life testing) with automated data capture and analysis
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and simulation engineers throughout the product development lifecycle, from concept through qualification
- Champion best practices for data management, version control, and reproducibility across the test engineering team
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in thermal/electronics testing, with a strong emphasis on test automation and data analysis
- Strong Python skills, including experience automating instrument control and building data pipelines
- Demonstrated experience building test automation frameworks and/or automated data acquisition systems (e.g., interfacing with DAQ hardware, thermocouples, flow/pressure sensors via drivers or APIs)
- Proficiency in JMP for statistical analysis of test data (DOE, variability/correlation analysis, control charts)
- Experience building dashboards and reports in Power BI to communicate results to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and technical writing skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid understanding of heat transfer fundamentals (conduction, convection, radiation) and thermal/liquid cooling systems (cold plates, heat exchangers, pumps, manifolds)
- Working knowledge of CFD/thermal simulation tools (Icepak, Fluent, or equivalent) and ability to correlate automated test data against simulation predictions
- Experience with software engineering practices applied to test tooling: version control (git), unit testing, CI/CD
- Familiarity with OCP (Open Compute Project) thermal and liquid cooling specifications
- Experience with statistical analysis and design of experiments (DOE)
- Experience building tools that bridge CAD/simulation workflows with test data (e.g., automated correlation pipelines)
- Prior experience in a fast-paced hardware development environment with tight product timelines
- Experience with manufacturing test processes supporting high-volume production shipments
Pay range and compensation package
- Work Arrangement: 100% onsite in San Jose, CA.
- Compensation: Base salary of approximately $150,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications, plus bonus and equity.
