Job summary

Gradient seeks a Systems Engineer to verify product changes for our high‑efficiency heat pumps. You will design and run tests in San Francisco, instrument units, collect data, and report whether changes meet design requirements.

Some testing occurs in our lab, with coordination of external labs and suppliers. You will validate firmware features, hardware changes, and supplier components, ensuring traceability across requirements, tests, and engineering changes.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• 0–2 years of hardware testing, validation, or related technical work.
• Experience with LabVIEW for test execution or data acquisition.
• Hands‑on experience building, testing, instrumenting, debugging physical systems.
• Experience collecting and analyzing data using instrumentation, sensors, data‑acquisition tools, multimeters, or similar equipment.
• Ability to analyze test data and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Ability to work onsite in San Francisco and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn unfamiliar technical areas.
• Initiative and demonstrated ownership through academic, extracurricular, internship, or professional experiences.

Responsibilities

• Read requirements and translate into test plans with clear pass/fail criteria.
• Set up and run tests in lab with sensors, DAQ, and environmental equipment.
• Analyze test data and write concise reports with conclusions and next steps.
• Validate firmware features, hardware changes, supplier components, and fixes.
• Review supplier changes and possible impacts on performance and safety.
• Coordinate third‑party testing from scope to results.
• Maintain traceability among requirements, plans, results, and changes.
• Document work in Gradient's systems (Confluence, Jira, Arena).
• Help build and maintain test fixtures and lab equipment.
• Learn across engineering disciplines and grow technical ownership.
